Dorian Carmeci: "Please Help the Children" Exhib

Springfield artist/poet/performer Dorian Carmeci will exhibit her works and discuss what inspired them. The exhibit—consisting of works in wood, mixed media, and ink—combines text and collage. Titled “Please Help the Children” featuring “The Impotent Bystander,” the show tells a brutal, yet compelling story: Visitors will walk through a labyrinth of visuals—an up-close, “in your face” perspective through the eyes of an abused child. They will see the tragic effects that occur when people turn a blind eye and deaf ear to the horror of sexual abuse, thus becoming “impotent bystanders.” Despite its raw emotion, the work also conveys a message of healing, survival, and hope. Ms. Carmeci’s talk will be followed by a discussion. Refreshments will be served. The event is free and open to the public. (Not advised for children.)
