3rd Saturday Arts at The Ethical Society of Essex County presents \"Animal Parade - Music and stories around our furry and feathered friends\", a Birgit Matzerath Piano Student Recital Concert, at 7 PM, Saturday, January 19th. Birgit Matzerath received degrees in music education and piano from the Hochschule fuer Musik and University in Koeln (Cologne), Germany and pursued additional private studies with Oxana Yablonskaya and Seymour Bernstein. For more than 20 years she taught at community music schools in the Cologne area, before relocating to the US in 2002. After teaching at the Concord Community Music School in Concord, NH for seven years, she relocated to Maplewood NJ, where she maintains a private studio. In addition to teaching, Ms Matzerath is an active performer, writer and composer. Highlights among her recitals were performances of Bach’s Well-Tempered Clavier Book I in the United States and in Germany. Her articles have appeared in music education magazines in the US and in Germany, and her blog “Music, Life and other challenges” can be found on blogspot. A book of original compositions for piano “A Bear for Emily” was published by Oceanna Music Publications in 2008. The Sandy Relief Fund Art Show will hold an open house before and after the concert for those who wish to view the artwork. See separate announcement this date.
