American Classics Book Discussion Series The readings for the first meeting of our new book group are: In Our Time by Ernest Hemingway and the essay “Fenimore Cooper’s Leatherstocking Novels” (from Studies in Classic American Literature by D.H. Lawrence). Says the New York Times: “The items which make up the collection of \"In Our Time\" are not so much short stories, in the accepted meaning, as preludes to a mood, composed with accurate and acute finesse to converge in the mind of the reader.” Copies of the essay are available at the Main Library circulation desk. Facilitated by Alice Crozier, retired professor of English, Rutgers University, New Brunswick. Thursday, September 3 7:00 pm at Main Library This program was made possible by a grant from the New Jersey Council for the Humanities, a state partner of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
