American Classics Book Discussion Series The readings for the first meeting of our new book group are: In Our Time by Ernest Hemingway and the essay “Fenimore Cooper’s Leatherstocking Novels” (from Studies in Classic American Literature by D.H. Lawrence). Says the New York Times: “The items which make up the collection of \"In Our Time\" are not so much short stories, in the accepted meaning, as preludes to a mood, composed with accurate and acute finesse to converge in the mind of the reader.” Copies of the essay are available at the Main Library circulation desk.
