America’s Music: Jazz in Newark Co-sponsored by Maplewood Library and South Orange Library Former Star-Ledger editor Barbara J. Kukla will present a talk on her new book, America’s Music: Jazz in Newark ;A Comprehensive Jazz History of An American City. It is a sequel to Swing City: Newark Nightlife, 1925-50 and is the author’s fifth book about the people of New Jersey’s largest city. Kukla will trace Newark’s rich jazz history from the 1920s on, focusing on the lives and careers of jazz immortals Sarah Vaughan, James Moody, Wayne Shorter and Woody Shaw as well as the singers and musicians who made Newark a jazz epicenter through the years. Copies of the book will be for sale. Tuesday, February 11 7:30 pm at South Orange Library
