On Wednesday, September 6, 7:30 PM, Temple B'nai Abraham Congregational Learning presents All Jewish History in One Hour…Really! with Professor David N. Myers, President, Center for Jewish History, Sadie and Ludwig Kahn Chair in Jewish History, UCLA. Professor David Myers returns this fall to discuss his just-published Jewish History, part of the prestigious Oxford University Press “A Very Short Introduction” series. A scant hundred pages, Myers’ thought provoking book, in the words of one reviewer, accomplishes “a concise but rich distillation of the Jewish historical past from its beginnings to the present.” In one hour, Myers does the same in lecture form, taking us on a speedy but substantial journey, allowing us to perceive our history as one, distinct, organic whole. Don’t think it’s possible? Come see. And learn. Myers, a favorite and frequent TBA speaker, has taught at UCLA for twenty-five years, where he directed the Center for Jewish Studies and served as chair of the Department of History. This summer he was named President of the Center for Jewish History in New York City, one of the world’s leading repositories of Jewish history. While Myers has authored five books and innumerable scholarly and popular articles and reviews, and has taught, lectured and conducted research around the world, his most cherished achievement is having been Rabbi Kulwin’s roommate while both were graduate students at Columbia University. Copies of Jewish History will be available for purchase and to be signed. Free and open to the community.
