Town : South Orange
Information:

Celebrate the holiday season with joy and tranquility in music old, new, and familiar. Nanino, Byrd, Praetorious, Gabrieli, Villette and Poulenc are among the composers who wrote of what happened at the manger; Joseph Jennings, Robert Shaw, Alice Parker and Robert de Cormier are among those who have made beloved arrangements of popular carols and songs. Seasonal anthems and carols by Americans from Billings to Ives to Steven Sametz will make for a classically rich and resplendent Chanticleer Christmas. “America’s a capella pride and joy.” Called “the world’s reigning male chorus” by The New Yorker, the San Francisco-based Grammy Award-winning ensemble Chanticleer, founded in 1978, revels in their favorite time of year with a performance at SOPAC. Praised by the San Francisco Chronicle for their “tonal luxuriance and crisply etched clarity,” Chanticleer is known around the world as “an orchestra of voices” for the seamless blend of its twelve male voices ranging from countertenor to bass and its original interpretations of vocal literature, from Renaissance to jazz and popular genres, as well as contemporary composition. Chanticleer was founded in 1978 and began releasing recordings in 1981. Since then, the group has sold well over a million albums and won two Grammy Awards. Chanticleer’s recordings are distributed by Chanticleer Records, Naxos, ArkivMusic, Amazon, and iTunes among others.
