South Orange Maplewood Community Coalition on Race presents the 15th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Observance Monday, January 18, 2016 at 2:00 pm, at 222 Irvington Ave., South Orange, NJ. The event is FREE, open to all and co-hosted by Congregation Beth El and First Presbyterian & Trinity Church of South Orange. Highlights include featured speaker Michelle Miller - CBS News Correspondent, an interfaith-led affirmation, choral selection by Voices in Harmony, instrumental jazz by the Bufford School of Music Faculty Band and a dance selection performed by Columbia High School Special Dance Company. Reception and Volunteer Fair follow at 3:30 pm. Donations of food pantry items, knitting yarn, old eyeglasses, children’s books ( K-5th grade) and travel sized toiletry donations are requested. Kits for the Luminary Project which will close out the observance will be available to light at individual homes as a sign of peace and solidarity with Dr. King’s vision of the Beloved Community.
