GL2 said:"I actually intellectually find this very curious, but on 9/11, I didn't like how rock music responded," the senator went on. "And country music, collectively, the way they responded, it resonated with me." Cruz did not specify which rock artists "responded" to the Sept. 11, 2001 terror attacks in a way that led him to switch genres. But he repeated that he's been firmly country ever since. "I had an emotional reaction that said, 'these are my people.' So ever since 2001 I listen to country music," he concluded. TPM I think Senator Cruz is just trying to be the "anti-Chris Christie" in this one. No f*ckin' Springsteen for that good ol' boy, no sir. You can take your "Rising" and shove it up your ...

There's a New Jersey version of the petition, which may or may not have been started by someone from NJ, or just "spammed". https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/peacefully-grant-state-new-jersey-withdraw-united-states-america-and-create-its-own-new-government/RYvjgdDT Quick look shows signatures mostly from outside NJ. Which leads to the question, "Are they supporting NJ secession, or do they just want to get rid of us?" ;-) If the latter, we still can call dibs on Springsteen! :-D

No, I am not a member of the horse set as you clearly are. Actually, it has to do with basic literacy.

Bob Dylan is finally 70... Edited

That having been said, I had forgotten about this one - The 1997 "Kennedy Center Honors", with Bob Dylan sitting in the box with President Clinton, and Bruce Springsteen doing "The Times They Are a Changin'" Too bad they hadn't really changed, given the early years of the first decade of the 21st Century.

Posted By: ml1hey if we're talking Ron Paul, why not Bernie Sanders? or Bruce Springsteen? Mr. Springsteen would probably have the same response as he did back in 2003, when he was asked about the effort that some had started to try to get him to run for Senate - Springsteen: Well, first that?s a real job. And I?ve spent the musician?s life is to avoid real work for as long as you can. You know (laughs). And I?ve been successful in doing so. That?s why they call it playin?. http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/3079783/ns/today-toyota_concert_series_on_today/

Boston or DC? Edited

May 10, 2011 at 8:36am
Posted By: sportsnutBoston!!! Especially if you can book for the 4th of July. Grab some sandwiches and lay claim to a spot along the Charles river mid afternoon and have a picnic and enjoy the fireworks later in the day. Listen to some great music etc. I was about to second that, and then I decided to check the schedule (because back in my day, the Boston Pops had a number of Esplanade concerts throughout the summer). Much to my chagrin, the Pops is just doing concerts on July 3 and July 4. There is some other orchestra (which for all I know has a lot of the same players) doing concerts for other times in the summer. But then I saw something else - the July 3 and July 4 Pops concerts have controlled access with wrist bands. So, the way we did it, coming out in the afternoon, spreading a blanket, and enjoying the day doesn't work anymore. You have to queue up for wrist bands, sort of like you used to do for Springsteen ticket sales, and that starts early in the morning. I miss the good old days. That having been said, if you want to take the ride to Boston, that's a better choice than D.C. (although I still stand behind my earlier alternative suggestion).

Using cell phones on the train Edited

Apr 28, 2011 at 9:52am
Posted By: ligetiUntil they came along, people got along without them just fine. They weren't invented to fill a need. The gadget companies told us we needed them. According to my information, about 99% of all cell conversations are unnecessary. Can anyone refute that? I love my cellphone. Well, "love" is probably too strong a word. Maybe, "I find that my life is easier with a cellphone." That works. From being able to order tickets to the first Springsteen reunion tour in 1999, in the middle of a boring firm retreat meeting in an auditorium, to just being able to leave for home without feeling chained to the desk, the phone, and computer at the office, I think they're great. That being said, I don't understand why there are people walking down the street on a Sunday afternoon, talking on the phone. It boggles the mind, but that doesn't mean that the devices themselves are bad. I also always make sure that I have my phone when I drive. The only times that I have had a breakdown or flat tire, I had left my phone at home. So, logic says that if you have your phone, nothing bad will happen to you!

With reference to a comment on the prior page, this is hardly "anomie". It's actually the opposite, imho. Encouraging strong families and long-term relationships is a good thing. In the words of a Springsteen song, "Two kids get married, same old thing." Will society collapse, based on the gender of each of the "two kids"? I have not heard a convincing argument in the affirmative on that one.

http://www.vevo.com/watch/bruce-springsteen-the-e-street-band/songs-from-the-promise-live/USSM21002203 This is pretty cool. They recently performed (in Asbury Park) some of the old songs that didn't make it onto "Darkness", with just the guys from the band at the time (with Charlie substituting for the late Mr. Federici). I've only watched the first song so far (an alternate version of "Racing in the Street"), but it looks and sounds really, really good. Even if you have no intention of getting this album, it's worth a look.

Listen to Bruce's new album Edited

It's sort of a "new" album, since it is a "might have been" album from 1978. Back in 1978, fans were waiting for a new Springsteen album, which manager contract issues had delayed. This was after his success with "Born to Run", and then he was unable to release anything else. And suddenly, as the summer of 1978 approached, we heard that a new album was (finally) going to be released. And this was in the pre-internet era, mind you, so that was a whole different way of finding stuff out. When the album came out, the (then) "album rock" radio station, WNEW-FM, just played the whole thing, for all of us who had been waiting. Back to present day -- listening to this release of an album of songs from 1978, which could have been another album at that time, takes me back to my 18-year-old self, waiting for a new Springsteen album in the summer, on FM radio.
