I'm surprised that you're surprised. https://www.latimes.com/entertainment/music/la-ca-springsteen-trump-20161019-snap-story.html  I know there are a lot of Trumpers in the fan base. I was more surprised at the number of them who have been so triggered by even the mildest comments. It's like they know these are Springsteen's attitudes, they've known it for decades but when he criticizes Trump they lose their ****. At this point I can only conclude that a lot of MAGAs have such a close personal identification with Trump that criticism of him equates to criticism of them. And it must hurt more coming from a performer they're big fans of.  It's been going on for over thirty years. Some lost their **** when he talked about Vietnam in concert and on his live album "1975-1985".  They lost their **** when he premiered "American Skin" (which is 20 ******* years ago, and still we're talking about this ****).  They lost their **** with "Vote for Change".  They've just been losing their **** at a more rapid pace as the years go by.  Our former Dear Governor Chris Christie exemplifies this cluelessness, as seen in this interview from 2012:Goldberg: Talk about the politics more. Springsteen sometimes used to say "Nobody wins unless--"Christie: "Unless everybody wins."Goldberg: I always had a logic problem with that. If everybody wins, no one wins, I guess I mean. There's no delineation. How do you judge who won?Christie: Yeah, he wants everybody onboard the train. That's a theme. But America is also a place that will reward you for hard work. Some people have more natural talents than other people. Like Bruce Springsteen. I don't square it. It's one of those things that doesn't make sense to me. What the hell is he talking about? It's one of those things he says that doesn't make sense.

I did not know Laura, but I did know Jeannemarie (Just the Aunt). We first met when Bruce Springsteen began his E Street Band reunion tour in 2009, and there was a mad scramble for tickets and some disappointment.  Jeannemarie read my post about my difficulty in getting tickets, and messaged me here on MOL. She told me that she was getting some tickets, and invited me and my spouse to accompany her.  I was just one of the many people who were on the receiving end of her generosity of spirit.

I know that there will be a thread on tonight's debate. And much hilarity will ensue. However, there is also a hashtag on "the twitter" which might also be amusing. The point is to have comments on the debate using Bruce Springsteen lyrics. I could be persuaded to use my long-dormant account to participate. https://twitter.com/hashtag/brucethedebate?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Ehashtag

I would be remiss if I did not mention Mr. Dylan's homage to Mr. Springsteen. Tweeter and the Monkey Man were hard up for cash They stayed up all night selling cocaine and hash To an undercover cop who had a sister named Jan For reasons unexplained she loved the Monkey Man Tweeter was a boy scout before she went to Vietnam And found out the hard way nobody gives a damn They knew that they found freedom just across the Jersey Line So they hopped into a stolen car, took Highway 99 And the walls came down, all the way to hell Never saw them when they're standing, never saw them when they fell The undercover cop never liked the Monkey Man Even back in childhood he wanted to see him in the can Jan got married at fourteen to a racketeer named Bill She made secret calls to the Monkey Man from a mansion on the hill It was out on Thunder Road, Tweeter at the wheel They crashed into paradise, they could hear them tires squeal The undercover cop pulled up and said "Everyone of you's a liar If you don't surrender now, it's gonna go down to the wire And the walls came down, all the way to hell Never saw them when they're standing, never saw them when they fell An ambulance rolled up, a state trooper close behind Tweeter took his gun away and messed up his mind The undercover cop was left tied up to a tree Near the souvenir stand by the old abandoned factory Next day the undercover cop was hot in pursuit He was taking the whole thing personal, he didn't care about the loot Jan had told him many times it was you to me who taught In Jersey anything's legal as long as you don't get caught And the walls came down, all the way to hell Never saw them when they're standing, never saw them when they fell Someplace by Rahway Prison they ran out of gas The undercover cop had cornered them said "Boy, you didn't think that this could last" Jan jumped out of the bed, said "There's someplace I gotta go" She took a gun out of the drawer and said "It's best if you don't know" The undercover cop was found face down in a field The monkey man was on the river bridge using Tweeter as a shield Jan said to the Monkey Man, "I'm not fooled by Tweeter's curl I knew him long before he ever became a Jersey girl" And the walls came down, all the way to hell Never saw them when they're standing, never saw them when they fell Now the town of Jersey City is quieting down again I'm sitting in a gambling club called the Lion's Den The TV set been blown up, every bit of it is gone Ever since the nightly news show that the Monkey Man was on I guess I'll go to Florida and get myself some sun There ain't no more opportunity here, everything's been done Sometime I think of Tweeter, sometime I think of Jan Sometime I don't think about nothing but the Monkey Man And the walls came down, all the way to hell Never saw them when they're standing, never saw them when they fell And the walls came down, all the way to hell Never saw them when they're standing, never saw them when they fell

This "RealityForAll" comment has little to do with what I wrote. I was addressing his mistaken assertion about what others were commenting about. I'd have the same comment no matter who was taking the deductions, because I made a factual comment. RealityForAll said:Once again I detest DJT (especially for his stiffing the small business person or contractor). In your comment, you equate "not actual losses" with accelerated depreciation and cost recoveries. Then you advance your argument with the comment "it wasn't actual cash out of his pocket." Absent depreciation and cost recoveries, most reale state centered businesses would be then judged on their cash flow. Again, there has never been any attempt in the last 50 years in the Congress (that I know of) to repeal depreciation, cost recoveries, accrual accounting or force taxpayers onto cash flow accounting. Your comment appears to be inspired by the fact that the loss was encountered by DJT or one of his companies. Would you have the same comment if HRC carried over an NOL arising from when HRC (and WJC) left the Whitehouse broke? I doubt it. IMHO, your real qualm is with DJT. The IRS has the authority to audit losses of taxpayers (we do not know whether this loss was ever audited or adjusted by the IRS). Similarly, I detest DJT but I am not going to blame DJT's use of the tax laws for my dislike for him. However, I am willing to defend any person who has followed the tax law and no others complain that they paid no tax (or not enough tax). nohero said: RealityForAll said:It is incredible to me that so many people are outraged by the NOL Carryforward provision in the Internal Revenue Code ("IRC"). This provision has been in our tax law at least since 1939 (and probably from the outset of the income tax in 1913 but I don't have time to research its full history now). NOL Carryforward has been black letter law for almost 100 years. What is so controversial about allowing business to carry losses from the bad part of the business cycle to the good parts of the business cycle? The concept is not controversial. The concerns are about what qualifies as a "loss". Not all losses are actual, real-time, cash losses. Trump's nearly-billion dollar "losses" could be due, in large part, to those "on paper", from accelerated depreciations or cost recoveries that are available for some people or businesses. In other words, it wasn't actual cash out of his pocket. In contrast (for example), the music store owner who was stiffed on the bill for pianos he sold to a Trump casino, DID apparently lose real money as a result. Completely irrelevant aside - it's been recently discovered that said music store owner was also the guy who rented Bruce Springsteen's mother the very first guitar Springsteen ever had, as a kid. If karma means anything, it might come into play in this instance.

Ibti retweeted articles from reputable newspapers that you disagree with.""just saw this thread. Please stop calling her an anti-semite! I speak from personal experience. What do you know?""Having a opinion that critiques Israel is a long distance from being anti-Semitic. It's a disservice to people facing true anti-semitism to assert that they're the same.""Not anti-Semitic.""Are you kidding!? So your saying she can't disagree with a regime??? That makes her anti Semitic?"And, a full dictionary definition of the term -"From Merriam-Webster 'Full Definition of anti–Semitism: hostility toward or discrimination against Jews as a religious, ethnic, or racial group'.  Sharing articles critical of the policies of Israel doesn't seem to fit the definition. There are many people and, at times our own government, who question the policies and practices of Israel. Is the US government anti-Semitic? Jewish Americans who want to see change? Israelis who want to see change?"So, it's not so much an assumption as seeing what's obvious, with respect to what you wrote before you changed it.  Your attempts to pretend otherwise are contradicted by the evidence.I'm surprised you're going to a Springsteen concert, if you're so concerned that people condemn Black Lives Matter.  Maybe you just want to "boo" if he plays "American Skin".
