YMCA Camp Fairview Lake?

Anyone have experiences- good or bad- with Camp Fairview Lake? We are considering sending our two daughters, ages 9 and 12, there this summer for two weeks. Neither of them have been to a sleepaway camp before.

Thanks!!

We've had a pretty good experience with Fairview Lake, our kids attended traditional 3 week camp.  The grounds provide a great, traditional camp experience, right on the water.  Food is good - junk food is a little too readily available for our taste (they get to pick from the camp store each day and most options are high sugar/high fat) but that's our biggest complaint which relative to all the other things they do well, isn't a big deal and I believe this is something they've been working to improve on.  Otherwise our kids thought the cabins were great, liked the variety of activities, etc.  Lots of Maplewood/South Orange kids attend - depending on your child, they may consider this a positive or a negative.

The strength of the counselors can be a hit or miss.  This only really becomes an issue if there are behavioral problems/conflicts in a cabin - then a mature, experienced counselor makes all the difference.  The counselors are just kids/young adults and they each come with different experience/skills - again depending on the cabin dynamics, this may or may not be an issue.

We've always found the staff to be very nice to work with, especially as you build a relationship with them over the summers.  All in all, our kids would give it a big thumbs up and as parents we would recommend Fairview Lake.  Good Luck!
