Write a handwritten letter to a remote school?

This is such a wonderful story, and a feel-good project with far-reaching benefits.

Post a hand-written letter to a remote Australian school, share a little of your life or community, and learn something fascinating about our deserts in return.

Wouldn't it be great if American children were to write to the youngsters at this Northern Territory school?

Write or type?  Do youngsters still write by hand, or is it all keyboard from an early age at school?

From the article, this is the address they should write to:

The children at Manyallaluk School, PO Box 271, Katherine, NT 0850.

I'd add Australia to the end of the address.

They're specifically working on penmanship skills as well as composition skills, so handwritten, please.

Who or what are 'bombers'?

The Essendon football team, in the Australian Football League code. Their colours are red and black. (I have no idea why they're called the Mighty Bombers, it may have something to do with the small airfield in Essendon)

Lucky guess! This, from Wikipedia: ...during the War years of the early 1940s, that they became known as "The Bombers" — due to Windy Hill's [their home ground] proximity to the Essendon Aerodrome.

Tsk. Tsk.  And you, a former Melbournian.    smile

Does the Queen eat cake on her birthday?

That was one of the other questions the youngsters asked when they wrote to Her Majesty as part of this exercise.  I'm not sure if they received an answer directly, but if you don't ask, you'll never find out.

I have the wrong end of the stick here ... it doesn't need to be school-aged children writing to the Aussie youngsters - although that'd be great, and who knows where it could lead?

It can be people of any age.

Listen, mr marksierra, my family were avid Saints supporters and several members still are! I'm just not one of them. (I've always been more into women's hockey and into soccer, again both of these are family sports with several Einhorns having played for Ajax)

cheese cheese cheese

I wonder if there are any school-teachers, or related professions, on MOL who might like to spread the word around their respective workplaces?
