WPLJ

I believe they went off the air May 31...

The WFMU shows are all archived nearly immediately, so you can access them whenever/wherever you like. I'll throw in a plug for Sophisticated Boom Boom with Sheila B., which features "female-fronted pop from the past, present and future; from all over the globe. And the occasional man" and airs 3-6 p.m. on Friday.

Here is the latest playlist/archive:

Sheila B. also does the awesome "Girl Centric Goodness" segment every Tuesday (I think) morning on WFMU's incredible morning show - Wake and Bake with Clay Pigeon.  6 AM to 9 AM.  So freaking good.

I fear that X-Ray Burns was the musical and topical heart and soul of the Glenn Jones Radio Program. It's been less than terrific since he passed.

Thoughts?

It's tough to say, but it isn't the same.

This makes me sad. When I first moved to NYC we had WPLJ playing through our phones at work (and you got it on hold as well) and I grew to love the morning show gang (this was the mid 90's) and they would make me laugh every day.

It's different, but I'm still listening and giving Jonesy time to work through his stuff.  X-Ray is definitely missed though.

The Noon - 1 hour used to be an inspired music-only trip through their bizarre and wonderful minds.

Back in the day I listened to PLJ (can still hear their theme music with those recognizable 3 notes) and NEW....Now it's FUV mostly ....and FDU and good old Q104.3 ....and QXR on Sundays my classical day.

When I first read your post, I interpreted the phrase  "playing through our phones" entirely different then you intended.  What a difference 25 years makes!

It drives me crazy sometimes (and this time of year when the playlists are so done and I am sick of even songs I like) but it's got most of the DJs I was listening to back in the day, Carol Miller especially.

And the noonday Beatles block, and Sunday am Beatles show always remind me how great and timeless they are.
