Donut Day first? World Gin Day this Saturday!

Come on, MOL/MAPSO: no events listed for World Gin Day? I thought we never let a reason to party slip by!

https://worldginday.com/whats-on/  That’s this Saturday, folks - surely we can improvise something by then? cheese

(Gin is one of the very few spirited indulgences I’m allowed, and there are several events where I am, and even close to marksierra. But it’s not the same if you’re not going to be enjoying some of the fun!)

I've never been a fan of gin - here's the full list of drink days:

Is it an Australia thing?  I'd be more for National Drink Beer Day - but that's not until September.

Which is all well and good, but I'm not really a fan of gin.

A good Scotch, on the other hand ...

 Now you are talking . . .

Surely good friend Hank can set up comparative taste tests??  cheese

Saturday is Book Fest here, an annual event featuring many best selling authors in a series of talks, interviews and panel discussions.  Featured author this year is Eve Ensler.  www.mapsobookfest.org

Ah.

Maybe a featured gin aperitif? cheese or afterwards? Just an idea... (Around here we're celebrating some local music, some environmental heritage and a Monster Machinery Day as well as boutique distillery gins from mid-morning to around midnight [the times are for the gin-related events]).

Maybe remember for next year at the very least.

And don't forget: 5 June World Environment Day!

I do like a good, clean tasting London dry style gin.  Unfortunately I've been burned by buying "artisanal" versions that lean too heavily on other botanicals.  I don't want my gin to taste too much like star anise, or rose hip, or cilantro.  I do want it to be obviously juniper-forward.  These are some really good, basic dry gins that I like:

  • Martin Miller
  • Bluecoat
  • Junipero
  • Asbury Park

The only other gin that I'll make an exception for is Hendricks, which has cucumber and rose hip, but neither flavor overpowers the juniper.

I heard a rumour you're observing a National Donut Day -today? (Friday)

Can you combine donuts and gin? Or maybe use the gin in the glazing?? (It's only juniper-derived after all; kind of a sad aniseed...)

Just drove past the D&D on Springfield Ave and it looks like the locals are having a PBA meeting there. oh oh
