SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING NOW, watch until 5:00 pm, Wind advisory and thunderstorm possible Tues April 21

Tuesday April 21

A line of thunderstorms is expected to move through the area this afternoon between 2 and 5. The storms will bring a heavy 20 mph breeze with the possibility of gusts in the 40 - 50 mph range. The NWS has issued a Wind Advisory that runs from 5:00 pm until 2:00 am but there is some indication in the models this morning that the line of storms may arrive in our area as early as 2:00 pm, bringing heavy rain and gusting winds.

After the storms move through there will still be a chance of gusty wind for a few hours. The highest win would be in the storms, though.

There is also a frost warning for tonight, so if you have started putting out your house plants, get them in this morning before the weather arrives.

Below is an image from the High Resolution NAM model this morning showing the line of storms at 2:00 pm extending from Norfolk Va to Greenwich Cn.Wind Advisory

That said, looks like the worst is going around us to the north and south.  These are geographically small cells.

These are basically just some gusty showers. Pretty shocked they warned these.

I jumped out of my damn skin when the siren went off on the radio -- totally not expecting it.  Wrote a post based on the warning and then looked at the radar and went, "huh?"

The Mt. Holly radar is off line for servicing.  Do you think they are just being super cautious in the blind spot?

We are getting it here tight now on the Eastern Shore of Maryland.
Crazy rain and a lot of thunder.  Winds just starting to kick up.

Nah, these are close enough to the radar out on LI and the TDWRs at the airports to know whats actually happening. I think they're probably warning them because the wind fields aloft are pretty strong and some of that could mix down. There was a gust of 71 in the Bronx within the storm that is now tornado warned.

Actually a pretty strong tornado vortex signature over Long Island Sound. Likely a pretty decent one.

And now the sun is shining and it is beautiful outside.
