Recently finished a lease and leased another vehicle. Thought the plates could just be moved over to new leased car, but dealer kept the plates from the old lease. Short answer, the dealer deals with returning the plates.
its easier to just lie to MVC and say you lost them...rather than fight with them to take them back.

OK, so my dealer did take the plates. He said someone from their dealership makes a DMV run about once a month to return a bunch of plates. It just came to my attention that this dealer never returned the plates. The plates are still active.

In New Jersey, who is supposed to return the plates when you return a leased vehicle to the dealer? The dealer? Or the party who leased the car? Thanks.
