Where are the posters?

Two irresistible literary openings:

"It was the afternoon of my eighty-first birthday, and I was in bed with my catamite when Ali announced that the archbishop had come to see me." (Anthony Burgess)

“Please forgive me because I am drunk. I contend that the Guinness at SJG is served in less than a pint. My husband wouldn't let me steal the glass to corroborate. Thoughts?” (annemarie)

 That was a great thread.

Tops is still Pablo, the PeaPod guy and the rest of the Rock Spring soap opera IMO.  Maybe the Ambien thread is up there somewhere.

And as far as legends go, the ever-infamous and purportedly-lost-to-time-and-before-my-time MOL boob thread has to reign supreme.

Ambien was a classic.  I had forgotten it.  You need to provide links grin

I think Art is still around, although I'm not in touch.

PeggyC moved to CT, and took up pottery and is on Facebook, but not lounge.

Strawberry is on Facebook and has a negative view of MOL.

Ess is on Facebook and seems to be very happy and employed and in love.

I talked to AJC at the last Glee Club Concert. He was hale and hearty.

I’m on MOL only intermittently, but believe me, you’ll never ever find me on the evil, evil F***book.

metaphysician, it always makes my week when I see you've posted here  wink

You've set up some wonderful, wide-ranging conversations in the past, bringing in lots of posters, lots of creativity and humour.

Some of the travel, food and health threads have been really interesting and helpful too. I've learnt a lot and laughed even more reading these.

Others that I haven't seen in a while, SomethingsFishy, LydiaL, Glover (but that's ok, I get to see her IRL).

SomethingsFishy was running a terrific store in South Orange, but I don't know what he's doing now.  LydiaL is on Facebook and seems occupied with strange objects and having fun and her pet.

Where she tried implying I was a mean girl.  (And I wish I was joking about that).  It's one of the things that reminded me that MOL is nicer in general.

She's around. She had a recent thread when she ran for Maplewood Town Council.

In general I miss seeing more women post on Soapbox All Politics.

We're FBF's these days. She was my teammate managing food for the reincarnated 1st Night, & her heart's always been in the right place.

I reluctantly participate in various local groups on FB, as well as NextDoor, because both local politics and “mom stuff” have moved there.  But I’m still here, and find it saner, better written, and easier to follow threads. (I’m also very tired of certain moderation styles in FB).

Sac was right to point out that we lost a  lot of participants during one of the more difficult platform migrations.  Too bad.

the format here is made for discussion and FB really is not.  So what you have here is a lot more like a conversation. It's too bad that new users aren't coming here.  But I think there are a handful of people on the SOMA Lounge who badmouth this site any chance they get and it's kept away newcomers to town.  And that's a shame because even at its most contentious, MOL was better than FB can ever be for having discussions.   Although I have to say that visiting the archives that Jamie linked to reminded me that there were a lot more dumb, poorly reasoned posts in the old days than there are now.    Maybe they are the ones who went to FB and dragged down the level of discourse there.

How about lars? Yes, she stirred up some trouble, but damn was she funny.

I'm pretty sure she got banned, but she is on FB.
