When to arrive at EWR for international flight (on United) this Saturday? archived

Ignore this post. Security can take 40 minutes on a bad day. Don't cut it this close. I

OK, ignore someone who has flown out of Terminal C every week for the past 20 years...clearly I don't know what I am writing about...

The TSA precheck folks very specifically advised me last week that it did not apply to international flights. Added: I think you are saying it will work on outgoing flights but that is not what they told me.

I used Precheck this past Saturday on a flight from EWR-LHR.

Could someone tell me what a "cell phone lot" is? What is it used for?

A parking lot where you can wait for the person you are picking up to call you to say they are ready. Otherwise, trying to guesstimate the trip through immigration, baggage claim and customs can leave you driving in circles forever.

It's a free place to sit in one's car while waiting for passengers to exit the terminal. When someone is curbside and ready to be picked up, they call the cell phone of the driver. Useful since cars are not allowed to idle curbside at the terminal and the parking lots can be pricey.

People picking up travelers can wait there. When the traveler lands, they call the pickup person via a cellphone, and the pickup person drives to the pickup point. It's to prevent people idling at the passenger pickup points at the terminal for long periods of time.

Regarding cell phone lots, I can be there in 15 minutes from my house.

Did we answer your question? oh oh

Great, I'll park in your driveway next time I'm picking someone up from the airport (which is never).

Me too, but they are very useful for people coming from further away. We've never used the one at EWR because we don't need it.

No doubt. I forget sometimes that I'm posting to everywhereonline.com.

Cool. Just let us know first so I don't accidentally plow into the back of your unexpected car.

Question answered - thank you. Now, where is this lot located again?? :-D

As you enter the airport property from I78, you will see signs for it. It's just south of the terminals.

I do use my Maplewood house as the cell lot when the arriving passenger has no checked bags, and that almost always is fine. It usually takes about the same amount of time to drive from M/SO to the airport as it does to taxi to the gate, disembark and walk through the terminal to passenger pickup. It's more tricky with checked baggage. The cell phone lot ought to make that situation easier.
