When people complain about our polarize politics, let's be clear about who's to blame

David Frum lays it out nicely:

If the idea behind tax reform is to eliminate favoritism from the tax code, then the tax law of 2017 is anti-reform: an aggressive loading of the costs of the state upon disfavored persons, groups, and regions. It leaves behind an unstable legacy, both economic and political. Economically, the system invites gaming. Politically, it accelerates the exodus of college-educated professionals out of the Republican Party. It will tint the blue states ever bluer, up and down the income scale.

States like California and New York desperately need a competitive Republican Party—especially at the state level—to challenge the lazy and often corrupt practices of local Democratic machines. This new tax law will have the opposite effect, wrecking whatever little remains of GOP strength in the states that motor American innovation and growth. It threatens to push New Jersey, Colorado, and Virginia into single-party blue rule as well, by painfully demonstrating that the party of Trump is not only obnoxious to their values but implacably hostile to their welfare.

The GOP is, quite plainly, at war with a large chunk of America. It's not an American political party. It's a factional party out to seize what it can for itself explicitly at the expense of the rest of the country.

It's my country -- I'm not ready to cede "United States of America" to people who don't believe in it.

We're gonna need a bigger wall.

I feel the same way. Unfortunately the Constitution gives an awful lot of power to states where no one actually lives.

This is a joke now. We can only hope that it will still be funny five years from now.

I understand the idea of moving New England, New York, New Jersey, and the west coast states to Canada, but why Nevada?

Nevada has turned quasi-blue. Hillary won it by a bit.

Besides, then we get Las Vegas.

there are a lot of democrats in many republican states.  Give them a good local candidate and they might have a chance.

Of course the alternative plan is for all of us to move to the red states, and impose our liberal values on their everyday existence.  Before Katrina I had a plan to move to New Orleans. Love the city but hate the heat. It had a different way of taxing property.  Out of curiosity I'm going to investigate. MOL South?
