What Would We Find at the Bottom of the Duck Pond

I overheard a discussion today about a pond in Montclair that was drained.  This makes me wonder what we would find if the Memorial Park duck pond was drained.  Perhaps Eric B,  already knows.

Seriously though, walking around the duck pond in Maplewood I recall seeing a few cell phones of various ages (some still shiny, some turning green with algae) and I’m guessing a few other odds and ends, soda bottles perhaps

In our family we always called it the Mystery Pond, for this very reason.

Field hockey and baseball balls.

Ancient Roman marble furniture? cheese

(sorry about all the ads interrupting the article) It seemed so pertinent, I couldn’t resist.

An entrance to Narnia, as long as we weren't looking for it.

lots of lacrosse balls

According to then Mayor Grasmere a car WAS found in the adjacent river during an Earth Day river cleaning many years ago.  Therefore, it would not be unheard of for a car to be found in the duck pond now.

How deep is that pond?  grin

Based on the time my dog fell into it, about 18 inches around the edge.

Its 18" now.  I would be curious to know what the original depth was. How many feet of silt are in that basin?

Saw a piece of it sticking up last time:

It's very shallow.

Has it been dredged in recent memory?

How hard would it be to do this?  We clean the river every year, can't we do the same with the pond?

I don't think so.
