What series should I watch next?

Just finished season 2 of The Other Two on HBO. Pretty funny. Now gonna start Season 3 of Sex Education.

For those who liked Mare of Easttown, you might want to give a try to American Rust on Showtime with Jeff Daniels. I watched the first episode and it has a similar gritty feel.  He's Chief of Police in South West PA.

Totally agreed. Just finished second episode and I am hooked!

Yeah, me too. Quite good, and Jeff Daniels is always worth watching.

Not a series but a great doc.

Caught this last night.

Fascinating Art.

Fascinating Artist.

Fascinating Creation Process.

Fascinating Family History.

Totally recommend!

If you haven't see SEX EDUCATION on Netflix, I suggest you give it a try. Definitely start with Season 1. (season 3 is out now.) It's so cute and entertaining and the teen actors are all so good and so adorable. Gillian Anderson (yes, THAT Gillian Anderson) has a delicious role as a rather droll sex therapist and mother of the principal character, Otis. It's explicit and honest, and frankly, very sexy - n an endearing way.

Just finished watching the eighth and last episode of Nine Perfect Strangers on Hulu. It was loopy, it was creepy, but in the end I quite enjoyed it. Sort of science fiction. Sort of relationship drama. Quite interesting overall. Interested in what others thought.

"Hacks" on HBO Max features a great performance from Jean Smart as a Joan Rivers-type comedy legend who is looking to stave off involuntary retirement by working with a young woman whose TV writing deal got nixed when she was "canceled" for an offensive Twitter post.

I liked it a lot but it took me a few episodes. The two of them constantly  bickering put me off ... until it didn't. Great job all around on this one.

For the sci fi fans, I started watching this Russian series "Better Than Us".  The first episode feels like a cross between Asimov's I Robot and the movie Ex Machina.  100% positive reviews on RT:

Watched and liked the first episode of "Only Murders in the Building" with Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez (she's a terrific young actress).  It seems like its going to follow the trend of recent shows like Lasso and Schitt's Creek - mostly laughs but with heart and some personal drama.  It has received excellent reviews.

Yes, a couple episodes in I was wondering if the good reviews were based more on appreciation for what the show was trying to do than actual enjoyment. But once it got going, I got wrapped up in the characters.

Just started watching "The Deuce" on HBO. It was recommended by a neighbour.

R-rated for sure. Maybe X. Starts in 1971 in the Times Square area and is apparently about the rise of Times Square as a home to porn and prostitution. .

My current R rated addiction is The L Word. Been binge watching as I had no access to Showtime for several years. Series started in 2005, Great cast and lots of guest stars.

I watched the first iteration of the L Word. I loved it, probably for prurient reasons, i.e, cuz it was sexy and featured beautiful, sexy women. I read that the principal audience for The L Word was straight men. I don't doubt it.

David Simon was filming "The Deuce" at the same time as "The Plot Against America" (including on Ridgewood Road in Maplewood!) He noted that it was quite the contrast.

Watched The Starling movie with Melissa McCarthy, Keven Kline, and Timothy Olyphant — how did Justified’s sheriff get cast in a bit role as a supermarket manager? And he rocks it!

Billions finished up the season, they are back in January. Not crazy about some of the new plot twists.

Also not sure I'm all in with American Rust. I compared it to Mare of Easttown but that show had me every week. I'll hang in to see where it goes but I'm not captivated by the characters.

I'm with you on both points.  The back and forth on Billions has been tiring for some time now.  American Rust is pretty flat to me also - I keep falling asleep on it.

I'm hoping Succession has a strong season.  And the return of Dexter will be interesting!

Anyone try Squid game - I think I made it halfway through the first episode.  seemed a bit corny, maybe the English audio dubbing wasn't that great.

I'm taking a break between seasons 1 and 2  of The Deuce to watch Season 11 of Shameless, with WH Macy. I never saw Season 11 when it was first broadcast on Showtime, or wherever it was. It's now on Netflix so I'm revisiting the Gallagher clan. (Minus Fiona, who was one of the principal reasons I watched Seasons 1-10.)

I watched the first episode because of all the buzz. (Apparently there are already 111 million fans worldwide!) I'm not sure I understand the popularity. I'll try one more episode to see if there's anything more to this than a massive body count and quarts of blood splatter.

I watch with subtitles because (1) dubbed voices rarely match the actual actors' voices (or their body types), and (2) I frequently use subtitles in any case because my hearing isn't as good as it once was.

You just reminded me of one of the albums I was grooving on in college. Hank Crawford's Down on the Deuce.

I will definitely check it out. I've been listening to a lot of jazz lately. Lots of Oscar Peterson from the 70s. Wow.

OK, I'm now finding American Rust really disturbing and I dislike every character in it. Ah but will I quit watching it or will I be sucked in one more time to see how things turn out?

I'll stick it out with Billions. Not sure why 'cause I sure find Wendy annoying, but sometimes if I can't find a good guy to root or, I can take some delight in seeing a bad guy lose. Yes I realize I'm wicked.

I'm only just coming to grips with the fact that we won't see new Ted Lasso episodes for months. MONTHS.

We've been watching "The Morning Show" on Apple TV+. I found the first season gripping but the second season is starting to lose me. The characters continue to get harder to like. I have ZERO sympathy for the Steve Carell character so whatever story arc he's on is just not that interesting to me.

I want to try "Only Murders In the Building" so I'm glad to hear you liked it, bub.

I began watching Season 3 of SUCCESSION on HBO. I loved the first two seasons. Rotten people behaving badly. 1% hijinks. Corporate malfeasance. Witty plotting and entertaining dialogue.

I think Season 3 has jumped the proverbial shark. Witty dialogue has been replaced by an endemic stuttering loss for words and a gaggle of half-witty corporate-speak, meant to be clever and typical but instead it almost out-Sorkins Aaron Sorkin in its babbling, show-offy but clearly made-up dialogue..

Bummer.

Finished Squid Game.  Most disturbing thing I have ever seen on TV.

Did you say something mean about Aaron Sorkin?

You missed the 2016 Republican convention?

I thought last night's Succession episode was really good.

About to watch Curb during my lunch break.

Curb is out now? Yay! It will make up for the fact that I won't watch (nor can watch) Ted Lasso until the platform changes.
