What happened to the "green highlighting" of quotes?

It makes the threads where people have quoted each other 10 times even harder to read.

If only people could avoid doing this.

One... two...

Yep.  All good.  Now if I could only get the text to start BELOW the quote instead of above, I’d be in business.

You can, as I did here. Youjust have to move your cursor (or touch your finger on mobile) wherever you want to type.

I know I can, as I did in the post prior, just curious as to why this is the default.  It’s backwards.

I call attention to the fact that the previous comment was liked by the guy who’s Down Under.

hmm, So I think you said - everything looked fine prior to submitting and upon submit the quotes combined.  hmm.   if we could duplicate the issue here - that would be helpful.  grin

let's see if this works.

there you are.  This is the actual text that was in the box when I hit "reply"

"Juggernauts are not supposed to look like this, without a superstar, a catchy nickname, a lineup of future N.B.A. All-Stars or the air of intimidation that is palpable even in layup lines. Villanova has none of these things."

Copied from a NY Times article.

I'm on a laptop, but not the same one I was using the other day.  Both are MacBooks, using Chrome.

There is a javascript error on the page, which may be a clue.

So - this was posted below the second quote?  cutting and pasting from the NYTimes could possibly throw in other html tags that you can't see.  Maybe paste the NYTimes quote into a text editor and see if there's anything extra.  Thanks for helping with this!

Are you saying that you didn't have the two quotes from me at all in the reply?  Did you hit the quote button at all?  If you could screenshot what was in your reply box before posting - this would be helpful.

pasted it into Text Edit, and this is what it looks like:

and here's what it looks like before I hit "reply"

and as you can see above, after I submit, it goes back to repeating your quote.

Weird.

ok, thanks again for pointing this out - we'll be working on it.  For now - we took out the ability to format text into a quote.

I completely agree.  But I recall that this discussion took place when the new (current) board software was first implemented and the default changed and there wasn't a consensus, so I guess @jamie decided to keep it at the top.  I have stubbornly continued to move the cursor to the end when I do it, but not everyone does that so it ends up jumbled.

Blame Google!

They completely ruined Usenet by allowing people to top-quote when replying to Group posts using a web-based browser, rather than a News Reader.

Most websites, since, have just followed suit.

(Does anybody here on MOL - apart from me - still read and post on Usenet?)

No.  Everything I did on usenet has migrated elsewhere.

I don’t think I’ve been to Usenet since 1998.

What happened to the quote menu function that was next to the "B" bold function?

Having a lot of trouble with the quotes today.  I quote some text and write a reply but when the thing posts the quote and my reply are all in the green bubble.

Works on my laptop, but I still can't use the like button.

Morganna - you seem to be the only one who can't like things- if anyone else has this issue - please let me know.  It's tough when it's only happening to one person.

My guys are still working on the quoting issue, hopefully we have this resolved next week.  We're trying to force the cursor to move below the quote when using the button.

+1. It's gone.

Yes - my guys are still working on it - since it wasn't working properly - we removed it temporarily.

I think it depends on the browser.  The older Internet Explorer wouldn't allow a "Like".

I posted this text above the quote to try to not get the funny quoting problem.

The like button is outlined in blue. Quote and report are outlined in black. Does that tell you anything? Anyway, not a big problem. I thought other people had that problem. I see so few likes clicked that I just assumed it didn't work for most.

For now I'll just type it in.

Like.

The like button is blue if you haven't clicked it.  But once you click it, it changes color and a green box shows the number of likes.  Like this:

Jamie, FWIW my old iPad 2 won't let me 'like', but then the iOS is quite old anyway. Most of the time I'm more likely to be using the newer iPad with latest iOS.

(I just use Safari as the browsers, don't bother changing the apps much)
