Watch for teen? Do they even wear them anymore?

Little dk has mentioned she wants a watch. With her bday coming up, her grandma would like to buy her one.....but what to buy??? Digital, analog? Or is a watch totally u cool?

I'd love some opinions and even watch recommendations. Thanks!

What's the price range?

Let her pick it out.

Watches seem to be making a comeback. Big chunky ones or ones with large stylish bands seem to be in style with younger crowds.

Price range is around $50. I don't want my mother to spend a lot on it.

angelak.....are these digital or analog?

How old? My then 16 year old daughter got a Seiko with a chunky gold tone band from my parents for the holidays last year. She liked my watch so I got her something similar. It's an automatic so batteries don't need changing. (We got it through an Amazon vendor, cost was under $100.)

I got my daughters best friend a less chunkywatch she picked out for her sweet 16, with a shell pink leather band. It was about $50.

Mostly analog, I think.

All white watches are very popular now and not just because it's summer. I saw them all winter too.

You should check out the swatch website. There are a lot of different options in your price range. . . http://store.swatch.com/

Its for a 13 yr old. Good to know digital is not coming back! Not a watch wearer myself, its hard to know what direction to go.

Thanks everyone!

I wonder how much the iWatch has to do with making watches "cool" again. I remember for about a decade all the articles about "How not to make yourself look old in the job market" were adamant that you had to quit wearing a watch because none of the hip youngsters did that. Funny how things change, and how quickly!

I used to love Swatches, but had difficulty finding replacement batteries for them. At least, the jeweler where got my other watch batteries didn't seem able to cope with a Swatch. But I'm glad they are still around. I might need a new Swatch. smile

Definitely analog! Hit up a Fossil outlet if you can, I think there are lots of styles that would appeal at a nice price point.

Both my kids 10y boy and 13y girl are wearing digital watches that they picked out themselves. His is a black Casio with stop watch, alarm and all that. Hers is smaller with dark pink colors.

I would say go with a G-Shock, pretty much indestructible and come in a multitude of colors. I have one of the higher end ones as one of my casual watches. Many of them have solar charging with atomic time keeping.

Possibly what @earlster kids are wearing.
