Voting machine hacking

Is there a cogent argument that says we should NOT worry about the possibility of voting machine hacking? I can't think of one. The ability to forge election results should be of concern to all of us.

Expert gives Congress solution to vote machine cyber-security fears: Keep a paper backup

One of the more frustrating things is that it is so bone-dead obvious that we should have a paper trail. And has been so since the year 2001 year freakout regarding the presidential election - which made the whole thing worse.

One of my sorority sisters is absolutely KILLING the issue, with huge, sourced threads about the machines, who owns them, services them, the software, etc. It looks like it has been a long game, almost two decades, of work to control the voting system and be able to change the votes as America grows more diverse, ensuring GOP losses, since they are increasingly the party of white supremacy.  Follow @jennycohn1

The Atlantic has had some stuff on this.  E.g., "Four voting machines had been secured for the event, three of them types still in use. One team of hackers used radio signals to eavesdrop on a machine as it recorded votes. Another found a master password online. Within hours of getting their hands on the machines, the hackers had discovered vulnerabilities in all four."

Chilling, and imo not well publicized, for the length of time there has been concern about it.

Anyone believing that this can't happen, doesn't happen, didn't happen is living in denial. If hackers from near and far can steal credit card info, banking and social security numbers, then of course technology can be used to hack into voting machines.

And ALL voting machines/votes are hooked up to the internet at some point through the election process.

I don't think this is true.

As long as there has been voting, there have been people trying to rig the vote. Trump is not the first politician to help undermine the voting process but he may be the worst.  Between his nominee for the Census Bureau, his bogus voter fraud commission, and voter suppression of minorities and immigrants he will destroy the democratic process.

Once we are rid of Trump, whenever that is, the problem will remain. We need to do something, as soon as possible.

I doubt anything will be done to fix it since no one even wants to admit it is a problem.  I think both the Democrats and Republicans, not the Russians, do this sometimes, but it never gets exposed.  There are always lots of rumors and then people saying those people are conspiracy nuts.

Maybe, but I think she's right.

yeah, me too. Too bad Rush Holt is not in Congress anymore. He used to try and push this issue.
