Verjus’ Replacement

When they left, the Churrasco owners said they were hoping to reopen somewhere in the general area, probably in Union County. I have lost their contact info and was hoping someone might have kept in touch with them. I wasn’t expecting them to reopen here in Maplewood.

(973) 761-7744 was their number, not sure if it is still in operation. You can try lagar restaurant in union for Portuguese food.

The exterior seems finished. To me it looks pretty well in line with other buildings in the area.

Looks like a house full of toddlers with all those stickers on the windows

Churrasco was forever ago. I used to go there with my toddler because the food was good, and there was outdoor seating in the back where he could wander around a bit (while I finished eating) without bothering other people. That toddler is now a rising senior at CHS! (How did that happen so fast??)

Warning, thread drift: Just wait ... it keeps going faster and faster! When I first started posting on MOL my children were young elementary schoolers. Now my younger child is ten years out of CHS!

I remember Gary's! But I will always remember Verjus more.

Little known fact: The first restaurant to occupy the space, I believe, was called Festival, in the late1950s, and it featured a miniature train delivering burgers to customers along diner style rows. It only lasted for a half year before going bankrupt. I remember because my mother bought me a share of stock in it for $20, after they advertised it in the News-Record, to teach me about the stock market.

Is it me, or does it seem like construction/progress has stalled there?

I saw a new fence around Hawk's Tavern property and my liver almost grabbed the steering wheel.

Don't invest in fly-by-night companies that advertise in the News-Record that are suggested by your mother.

Thanks. My mom just told me to buy stock in Acme Anvil, Ltd. She saw some documentary where some coyote dropped an Acme anvil on some bird. She doesn't remember how it worked out but she says the anvils are perfect shape.

They seem to be working inside

Note about the new Verjus building:  They seem to have been approved for solid (opaque) construction right up to the sidewalk.  Even though this intersection is controlled by a traffic light, this is a dangerous condition especially on a heavily traveled road.  Occasionally some vehicle may run the light and be surprised.

What sidewalk?  Rutgers/Springfield is a heavily traveled intersection by both motorists and pedestrians.  The entire sidewalk on both the Rutgers and Springfield sides of the property have been fenced in for far to long, forcing pedestrians to walk in the street.  The sidewalk on the other side of Rutgers is blocked by trucks and cars parked on the full width of the sidewalk.

I agree.  I can't believe the Township approved this design. Extremely poor planning

Anyone knows what is going up in the old Wyman Ford parking lot?

Yeah I can’t believe they’re allowed to build right up to the sidewalk like that. What’s really going on in town hall?

As for the monstrosity up on st Lawrence… doesn’t look like it belongs in maplewood. Livingston maybe?

Apartments, no retail.  Parking on the ground level.

Perfect shape, jack, but I've seen that documentary and this is a surprisingly ineffective way to get rid of birds
