SO not fair!!!!!!!!!! I only have two options up here, and neither is good!
Some friends of ours who moved to the boonies of Virginia have some kind of satellite internet. Is that an option? (I don't know how fast it is, though.)

Like Hughes? I see commercials for them all the time, but have no idea how fast they really are. And I don't know if they even do television or phone. We are dealing with satellite now, so we already have the dish.

I'll ask what they have.

Satellite internet can be good, depending on your surroundings and your type of internet use. It can have very good throughput but bad latency. Throughput is how many bytes move in a second. Latency is how long it takes for the first byte of a stream to get from there to here (or the other way). High latency can ruin certain types of traffic, especially when there is back and forth traffic. It might be fine for streaming videos. It is entirely unsuitable for VOIP (voice over internet). When loading web pages, you may have delays, depending. Also, clouds, snow, and trees can interfere.

So I just reached out to FIOS to get money off of my bill. No dice. I inquired why I havent seen the One Bill discount on my bill since adding my cell service to that. He told me they dont offer that. I told them they did when I signed up for it - he said sorry we dont offer it anymore. *****ers.

Luckily I just dug out the email that stated I would be getting this discount as of 4/2/13. Called back and they are applying it and making it retro oh oh

I don't think calling them and just asking for a discount will get you a discount. I think you have to threaten to cancel. Ask for retention.

I agree grahamb, but asking for a discount that I was supposed to have is legit.

I wonder what percentage of the fiber optic infrastructure is owned by Verizon. They may be feeling pretty good about the advantage they have in terms of quality since fiber really does the best job of carrying the signal. Maybe they are making it harder to play the "I'm quitting" game since they have what is perceived to be a superior product.

I also wonder if they will ever be forced to share their infrastructure with the other kids, like Ma Bell was forced to share their copper with MCI in the 80s.

Verizon got a better deal in NJ than in other states. The state says Verizon won't make Verizon share the cables with their competitors. The advantage to consumers from this is that it gives Verizon an incentive to hurry up and string the cable everywhere.

I spoke to "retention." The rep refused to restore the $20 discount, which expired one year into my two-year contract (surprise!). When I told him my next call would be to cablevision, he said, "That's your choice."

That's because you are still under contract.... Just spoke with retention...offered more service for $20 cheaper...additional 50 discount plus free n router

@luckysrike: Wow. Looks great. What's the bottom-line price? For how many boxes?

Yeah and are you a new customer? That's what I have and they said 119 is the best price they can do

I never speak to the reps unless there's a problem you get the best deals online when you look for upgrade packages everyday on your account for new 2 year agreements. You can always sign a new 2 year agreement if you find a better deal. Month I go online and check everyday for new 2 year agreements for existing customers and got real lucky because the next day that offer was gone. It may have been a glitch but Verizon has to honor the price because after I did checkout I got a confirmation on the order and then called to confirm. The sales representative said that $70 price didn't exist so I showed the email confirmation number. I used to have the triple play $99.99 for Fios Select, internet 50/50 and local voice, but now I lowered my bill to $70 with this new deal. 2 boxes 15.98 each so should total about $105/m. The bad news after 2 years the price shoots straight up so I will have to renew and secure a new 2 year agreement on month 23.

Wow though, great job.

Figuring out Verizon pricing for FIOS or Wireless makes my head hurt. question

I just figure.d out your total and average monthly cost.
Total for 36 months = $3785.16
Average monthly = $105.14
Plus equipment rental.

Best deal I ever got from Verizon: Three or four years ago, I renewed my Triple Play FIOS contract. At the time, they were offering a free multi-room DVR for life. Yes, "for life"! That's $20/month. Pure dumb luck that the deal was in effect at the time of renewal.

So you don't ever have to pay rent on your STB?

Luckystrike,
Do you know what, if any, early termination charges there would be?

I've had nothing but trouble trying to get a decent price for my FIOS triple play. As @Apollo_T. can attest to (he thinks it's because I'm a girl -- and he may be right). I've been quoted great prices, then they reneged on them, said they couldn't give me the same deal as others in my neighborhood who had also recently renegotiated their contracts. I've been going month to month for the last 2 years because the contract prices they gave me were more expensive (if you can believe that). I truly believe they're so arrogant that they don't believe their customers will get sick to death of them and leave. But this girl will in about 3 months when I move and say goodbye to Verizon. Then I'll have to switch my fights over to Comcast (but at least I'll be a new customer and probably get a good price, we'll see.)

@ridski: The multiroom dvr is different from the regular STB. Right now, we have an STB on one floor and the multiroom dvr on another floor. We pay monthly for the STB, but the separate multiroom dvr monthly charge ($20) is credited back each month. As I said, pure luck that it worked out this way.

Verizon just changed my triple play package from $70 to $159.99 due to an internet glitch. I lost my previous bundle i had for 99.99. and now I'm stuck with a premium package that I never signed up for. Buyer beware of these promotions and discounts. Verizon will lie and cheat to rip you off! If it's too good to be true that most likely it's a scam to trick you into paying more. They said i never signed up for a $70 triple play package for ultimate hd, internet 75/75 and local since that deals never existed. I was automatically enrolled in 159.99 and I have no option to change or cancel without termination cost. Verizon reps have lied to me and do not beleive anything they say!

WHat about the email confirmation you received?

You have 14 days to cancel no penalty. But I don't know about reinstating your old bundle
