Using a hdtv as a desktop monitor.

Technotwit at it again!

I’ve become rather frustrated with the image quality of my 22” LG HD monitor.  It’s always been subpar but I didn’t find it a PITA until recently.  Can I just connect my panasonic hdtv to my desktop- both have HDMI ports- to use as a montior?  There’s obviously no installation disc...is one needed?  I have a long hdmi cable that will reach.

TIA

You should be able to - try it out.  What model is the TV?  Sometimes the resolution on TVs isn't ideal.  You shouldn't need a install disc either.

You won't need an install disc. Usually the only catch is that most TVs don't default to showing the edge of the screen (generally referred to as the 'overscan' area). There usually is a setting in the TV that you can change to force it o show this area, but it can often be hard to find and different manufacturers name it different things. So if you can't see the edges, you need to change this setting in your TV.

If your TV isn't 1080p then you're likely going to have a lower resolution than your monitor.

My son does this via his Mac Book Pro. Don't know how he hooked it up but his flat screen is now his computer screen. Kinda fabulous.

Thanks for your inpu.  I’ll be trying this soon.  I’m hopeful that it will give me good pic for various puter functions and bigger, better streaming.
