According to the Maplewood website, the town engineer is responsible for handling street lighting requests. These are generally for more exterior lighting not less; still, this would be a logical place to start.
Technically - I believe Underhill is tied to South Orange. I guess I can try their engineering department. SO Rec center oversees it to some degree, but they said lighting was the BOE.
I spoke to someone from south orange and they said maplewood oversees it. Will continue in the morning. I find the process fascinating.
When I was a 'ute, I recall a record on Columbia label about a guy, "The Old Lamp Lighter." Maybe you should get his name and call him.
if you get hold of the right folks, this should be an easy fix. They can put the lights on a timer or fix an existing timer (deleted light sensor, won't work in this situation).
I got a bb gun I can loan you for a night.... just don't tell anyone where you got it.
I assumed the Board of Ed owned the athletic fields at Underhill. I say go straight to the BOE and asks who is responsible for the lights.
BOE maintenance said it wasn't them.
I called town hall yesterday and they said it was CHS. Got through to someone at CHS athletics and they are looking into it.
BOE sent me to their maintenance department. Just heard back from the athletic driector, he said he's in charge of the field lights - but the pedestrian walkway is either PSE&G or South Orange - He'll be looking into it.
It's interesting to me that you wouldn't have the pedestrian lights and field lights at the same location or at least on the same timer - these would mainly be needed when the field lights are on.
Some years ago I had the same problem with lights on the soccer field. After some investigation I found out that the problem was caused by the lighting contract with PSEG. For some unknown reason, it was cheaper to have the lights running 24/7 than it was to turn them on and off. Can you believe that explanation? After some time the problem was resolved, but I do not know how.

A few years ago lighting was installed on the walkway at Underhill field (November 2013). No problem, except once they installed it - the lights stayed on all day and night. These lights are actually brighter on our house then the field lights are.
After many back and forths - they figured out how to turn them off.
Since then - they've rarely been on - I don't think they've even been successfully used during a game.
So, you wonder - why no easy on/off switch? The past two years I've noticed them on a day or two in May - seems like a yearly timer and it didn't coincide with any event.
Now they're back on full time for the past several days.
Initally called BOE - the forwarded me to CHS athletic dept - I left a message - haven't heard back.
Talked to Maintenance at the BOE - they said it wasn't them and to call South Orange rec.
Called South Orange Rec - they're in charge of the fields - not lighting. They said it's BOE.
