Ukulele for Teen

Tenn has requested one for her birthday and we have agreed to bestow one upon her grin

Any suggestions on where to buy one?  Amazon, Sam Ash, used sources?

I really don't want to spend that much because it might just be a transition instrument. We already have another fancy vintage instrument  called a "Tiple" that is essentially a 10-string ukulele.  Teen wants to start learning on a simple ukulele and then work her way up to the Tiple.

Got my little girl her's in Kauai at a roadside stand on the way to Kapaa. Sounds like you need to take a vacation. If not I vote for Amazon. The have them pretty cheep. You can upgrade if your kid sticks with it.

Fun! Coincidentally I was researching this not long ago and thought there were some good choices at Sam Ash or Guitar Center.

@GGartrell, Now that is too cute!  Blue? Flowers? grin

@j_r, She is determined to be self-taught....(God help us all! The violin years for her sister were tough enough around here.)

Saw some at Guitar Center on Rte 22 recently.  In the Acoustic room.  And Sam Ash is just across the highway

There are lots of YouTube instructional videos to be found. Or maybe she could pick up some pointers from Jake Shimabukuro. Because what could be better than Journey via ukelele?

@AliGrant,  Thanks for the tip! I had forgotten about the Guitar Center.

I got mine recently at Guitar Center. There were plenty to choose from and at various price points.

If you can find this deal anywhere, take it (Tangi @$100).  I have one on loan from a Hawaii'an friend and it has a great sound.  No longer produced AFAIK.   Don't get a cheap uke, as they likely won't stay tuned.
