Trump wants a Soviet style parade of military equipment on Pennsylvania Avenue next July 4th

"“I came back and one of my early calls were, I think we are going to have to start looking at that ourselves,” the president told Mr. Macron. “We are actually thinking about Fourth of July, Pennsylvania Avenue, having a really great parade to show our military strength.”

North Korea likes those parades as well.

Of course he does. He wanted it at inauguration, but the military shut him down.

I think the city of Washington also told him the tanks would destroy the streets.

No one does it better than NK.

Our Dear President can bond with Dear Leader on a best ever military parade project.

Sadly, they misunderstand each other. They need guidance to realize how much they really have in common.

Our Dear President did say he wanted to do infrastructure. Reinforced streets. Every town, every city, should have 70 ton tracked vehicle enabled streets.

Now I understand the purpose of the "Like" option.

I'm sure its going to scare NK:  "Oh sh*t, they're actually rolling missiles down Pennsylvania Ave.!  We better back down!"

I tried to make myself feel better by telling myself "it's only 4 years" but these past 9 months have felt like a million years.

Years ago (late 70's I think) someone managed to get a tank for a parade in Millburn, it went down Main Street.  In our back yard, maybe 100' from Main St, we had a cinder block retaining wall.  When we came back after the parade the wall had fallen down.  Circumstantial to be sure, but I agree that putting heavy military equipment on city/town streets just for sh!ts and giggles isn't a smart idea.

The valid infrastructure issues aside, having a military-style parade down Penn Ave sends the message that we're playing chicken with NK. We've not had those kinds of public displays because our military might is a given. We don't need to flaunt it. Doing what Trump proposes - if this is indeed the case - only undermines our authority and makes us look petty and insecure.

I think it's a byproduct of his "small hand" syndrome.

July 4th?  I'll bet he wants that parade every day.

This is deeply disturbing for all the reasons stated above.

Couldn't we just go with a giant papier mache phallus? Much less wear and tear on roads.

I just hope God's on top of all this, so that every Trump voter (and Jill Stein and the other guy) rot in hell.

Maybe what what he really really wants in his deepest secret heart is a blend of the military parade and  the Edinburgh Tattoo - except that he possibly thinks the Tattoo is inked. cheese

I wouldn't put all Trump voters in the same category.  A lot of them were just deceived about how Trump would turn out.

As some have said, we knew who and what he was ... and we elected him anyway.

Trump is who we (U.S.) are.

You'd have to be incredibly stupid not to have known. They wanted to be deceived.

when a person shows who who they are, believe them.

Doesn't he still have something like an 80% approval rating among his supporters?  A few have woken up, but I believe the majority are still living in La La Land and think he's doing a Great job, the Best job of any President, Ever.

An eye-opener for me (as I posted elsewhere) were these stats. Previously, I'd chalked up this disaster to disaffection among the white working-class.

We normalized white supremacy:

"...Trump assembled a broad white coalition that ran the gamut from Joe the Dishwasher to Joe the Plumber to Joe the Banker."

white women +9

white men +31

white/college +3

white/no college +37

white 18-29 +4

white 30-44 +17

white 45-64 +28

white 65+ +19

white midwestern Illinois +11

White mid-Atlantic NJ +12

White NM +5

In no state...did Trump's white support dip below 40>#/p###

If you tallied the popular vote of only white Americans: Electoral College = Trump 389, Clinton 81, 68 toss-up.

Atlantic/ "The First White President"

He angers "libtards" - that's what most of his voters like about him.
