Trump says jobs will solve race relations

Trump just doubled down on blaming both sides for Charlottesville.  When asked what will help solve race relations - he claims jobs will and rising wages.

Can someone help me understand this better?  Does more money solve everything?

Jobs that pay decently, have healthcare and other benefits, would help all of us.  But that's beside the point when we have had centuries of institutionalized racism, a "justice" system that has used a drug war against people of color, and the crippling of generations of African American families which has in turn resulted in a lack of property and other financial resources that normally bolster the descendants' futures.  Is the deck stacked against some Americans?  Yes.  But generally not the guys in the polo shirts signaling allegiance to the modern Klan while simultaneously brandishing torches and automatic weapons.

I think there is a slice of truth to jobs improving race relations. If people felt secure in their jobs and financial situation, then there would be less reason to blame others for taking away one's way of life.

However, individualistic capitalism thrives on competition. Higher profits are achieved by finding cheaper labor and/or smaller workforces. With that, comes insecurity of job and financial situation -- which gives way to blaming 'others' for it.

Trump probably does not understand that a sprinkling of new low-paying jobs is not going to solve the problem of job and financial insecurity.

Jobs, wages, race relations:  three things our President doesn't care about.

mere jobs ain't gonna do it. Jobs is sort of the minimal requirement. It's a long way from a job to economic justice.

So he brags about how we have the lowest unemployment in 16 years, but then says jobs will solve racism.

You can't have it both ways.

Economic insecurity definitely fuels the us against them mentality. But so many of the jobs today, part time, on demand, variable shift work for low pay and no benefits just increases economic insecurity. If we can substantially reduce insecurity with universal health care, living wages and opportunities to pursue post high school education without going into debt I actually think that would substantially help relationships between different groups.

Oh, that explains why there is hardly any racism in the most economically advantaged cohort, white males.

I agree with this. When people are under-employed and they can't afford healthcare/education, retirement, etc., and they fear for their futures, they look for someone to blame. Will good jobs solve the problem of racism, etc. for real and for good?  No, but if for a generation or two people have good careers that reward hard work with financial stability, much hate will dissipate.

Nobody has accused him of having any logic.
