Very sad. I live right near there - is the tree right in front of 40 Burroughs?
Yes it's facing 40 Burroughs, and the hole is in the very bottom of the tree and difficult to see (except now, with the legs and tail of the cat sticking out of it). I imagine a fox or coyote will find it eventually. Sad indeed.
The cat is out. Very sad. Thanks to the Health Dept for prompt response to my call!
It didn’t look like a tortoiseshell calico to me, it appeared to be a grey and black tabby
i would say it was a grey and black tabby. My guess is the cat was probably chased and tried to hide in the hole and could not reverse. I’m surprised there was that much space for him. I blocked the hole.
Glad to know the health department was called, and thank you for blocking the hole. My dog used to try to stick his nose in the hole whenever we walked by (he discovered the cat, actually). Sorry about the poor cat (tabby or whatever).

Someone's tortoise shell cat seems to have met a sad end in the hollow tree near 40 Burroughs Rd. When I was walking the dog this morning I found the cat's legs sticking part way out of a hole in the base of the tree--possibly a calico or tortoiseshell cat. Clearly poor kitty got stuck or was attacked by raccoons that live in the tree. If this is your cat, my condolences.
