This may not take away Richard Meier's skills as an architect, but......

Was he asking them to play "post office"?

Does this have any relationship to the builder of the Circus building being close to the Kushners?

You read these stories... grinding a woman making copies, throwing a woman on a desk.... and they felt compelled to update their Human Resources manual.

This is not a Human Resources issue, it’s a human decency issue. The most basic, threshold levels of decency is not something I’d consider notable but I must admit I’m surprised at just how often it isn’t met.

Such pigs. I hope they are in their legions drowning in ambien trying to find one good night’s sleep before the phone call finally comes for them.

he was asking them to help him out with some "adaptive reuse"

Of course.......we cherish the concept of re use and avoiding un needed use of energy.  We would never tear down a perfectly good building then discard tons of debris which we have created.  Nor would we use zillions of dollars in energy in order to benefit so few.  We area a green community.............when it is convenient.

I hear the residents above The Cassidy don’t want to allow any live music in the restaurant.

Why would you rent in a downtown location if you don’t want the vibrancy of living downtown and all that it brings?

Oh, the humanity!

Though I didn't think it would work for the post office project, the concept of adaptive re-use really interested me. I think someone posted a neat example of the concept that was built in Peru. I even went on my own to look at some websites that highlighted successful projects.

I asked several people, including Inda Sechzer and yourself, about other locations in town that might benefit from adaptive re-use. No one ever replied and I've never heard about it since anywhere in Maplewood. It's almost as if it was just a fig leaf for people who just didn't want the post office knocked down or who felt that they should be given the project.

Come to think of it, there were a lot of strong project opponents whose passion for certain concepts or goals waned as soon as the post office agreement was finalized. Sometimes I wonder if some people took advantage of the post office hubbub to advance their own interests.

I have to admit I’d be stumped, too, if asked. Are there other township-owned buildings that no longer serve their purpose and would otherwise be demolished?

Depends. Vibrant living? Or vibrating living room floor? (Not that Blue Cheer would be playing, but I can understand some resistance.)

The advancing their own interest question is always asked as some what of a dodge.

You have to remember though that the question of reuse can only be asked of buildings in the public sector.

Several engineers deemed the Post Office building as the most strong building in terms of structural integrity

in the Village.  To have called the building an area in "need of rehabilitation " was simply an untruth but

set the building up for eventual destruction.  Aside from a small amount of water found in the basement

there was never any physical evidence of decay

There was no lesson learned in the debacle......except maybe by Jerry Ryan

However I am thankful that we now-have oneTC member who has spoken of intelligent town planning

and not simply building because a space is available

Red balloons forever

I live in the Village Coffee building which was built in the1920's.  All day long Village Coffee plays background music ranging from Indian vocals and instrumentals to light jazz.  What little I hear makes for pleasant sounds

That means absolutely positively NOTHING.  Just like all of your posts.

Oh man why why why why why are we doing this again? Why do we have to have her another thread that has devolved into another stupid argument about the post office and Clarus building? Why can't you all just walk away from It? You make some comment intended to provoke a response from author and then attack his inevitable reply, knowing that it will send him off into multiple tirades. To quote my favorite fictional queen, let it go.

Can't you find something more interesting to talk about?

Are we going to be doing this in 5 years? Ten? It's stupid. Stop it.

Let's go Mets.

Sounds like a "fax matter".

And yes, it's astounding that there has to be some kind of official rule against behavior like that, since "It's good to be the king" seems to be how some superiors view their workplace.

I don't understand the Selena Gomez picture. Is that supposed to be me? I haven't looked that good in 25 years.

Pssst, Mr. I. Selena Gomets.

Aw jeez.

Kind of like the people living next to the Women's Club complaining about noise.  Why would you buy a house next to a club (and downtown) if you want it to be quiet?
