The National Emergency Thread

unfortunately you're bringing the average down all by yourself.

This whole emergency thing is fantastic really. I hope it holds up in court. Imagine what we could do with it for climate change, gun control, abortion rights, just to name a few.

And the sheer collection of comments you add containing zero substantive content appears to further validate this research:

Trolls just want to have fun
In two online studies (total N = 1215), respondents completed personality inventories and a survey of their Internet commenting styles. Overall, strong positive associations emerged among online commenting frequency, trolling enjoyment, and troll identity, pointing to a common construct underlying the measures... cyber-trolling appears to be an Internet manifestation of everyday sadism.

Often wonder what a troll gets out of stuff like this. Like, who's the audience? Just normal posters? Where's the satisfaction? Just getting the attention? If so, why's that satisfying?

IOW, why not be on a board where everyone's poking fun at libs and there's camaraderie to be had?

Because that's no fun for a contrarian troll. The person in question sees himself as a comedian. If he found such a board he would be posting from the Left.

It's not necessarily about the attention.

My understanding is that in everyday sadism the sense of pleasure/ satisfaction/accomplishment can be derived just from causing others to feel a type of negative emotion. On the internet, that could mean posting something they believe would cause others to feel shock, discomfort, pain, anger, or other strong or negative feelings.

Think of it as the reverse of the brain pattern of those who derive a sense of pleasure/satisfaction/accomplishment from posting information they believe helps others.

Trump isn't generating hate filled support by fomenting antisemitic angst towards Jews; he's generating hate filled support by fomenting xenophobic angst towards Latinos.

So, it's completely different from what Hitler did in Germany.

What are the three differences between Trump and Hitler?

 4. Hitler actually had a ball.

They are both addicted to speed, though, which embellishes their delusional natures.

Hitler was a vegetarian, Trump likes steaks cooked well-well-done with ketchup.

Don't forget those "thousands of Muslims" that Trump claims that he saw celebrating on 9/11/2001.

This time its the Latinos. What next should Trump get the "Latino problem" solved?

I would guess its African-Americans. His racism about Obama's birth and the Central Park Five clued me in.

This is how people like that operate. Hitler does a group, like the socialist or communist or labor union and when its suppressed move on to the next.

Hitler had a documented vision - Mein Kampf.  For Trump, it is just reality T.V. where each episode may or may not be connected to the previous episode.  I think Trump's vision is "whatever earns me praise and adulation."

 That's two. Trump is delusional.

The main difference is that one is dead and the other is not. That's also the main problem.
