talk about a tax bill

At that price they should call it the truffle house.

I'd like to know what happened to the tennis court, and why.

Am I remembering incorrectly, or has this house changed owners at least twice in the past five years or so?  The current owners appear to have invested quite a bit of time and money recently on the landscaping (and a new roof?). A shame they couldn't enjoy it for longer.

I believe that it's still owned by the same  family who purchased and restored it about 12 (?) years ago.  They've put a lot of money and love into that house. They posted the progress in the restoration, and asked advice of the MOL community when they had to replace the cedar shake roof. Thank you, if you're reading this.

Ah, for some reason I thought the most recent renovation was by a new owner.  Thanks for clarifying!

I think I remember from a past discussion that the tennis courts were actually the neighbors, could be remembering wrong.

And yes, the current owners have done amazing work, the place looks great.  They should have lots of good house karma.

Mrs. C's uncle used to play tennis there about 50 years ago. He was dating the owner of the house (she was divorced.)

I believe that would be a thatched roof, not cedar shake.

You're right. I remember that they had to get someone from Florida to do it - there aren't that many people who do thatched roofs.  It's aged beautifully.

It's a thatched cedar roof. A tree fell on the original roof 4,5 years back and their insurance covered the replacement, which must have cost a massive amount of money. I was blown away by the good condition of the original cedar shingles. If not for the tree, it probably would have lasted a few more decades.

The thread about the roof. Check out the pictures in the first post.

Incredible house.

It is.  I'm always surprised when I look at pictures of the interior.  Given the roof, I guess I'm expecting something more whimsical, not a traditional Tudor revival.  (That great room has to be fantastic for parties.)  And that pool area with the new landscaping is wonderful -- feels like you're in the middle of a forest.

Stunning . . . I think it's a steal for that price!  I hope there is a bidding war.  Best of luck to the sellers, their meticulous work and investment was a gift to SO/Map.

That was my immediate thought about the price.

I thought the same.  But figured that it's a pretty unique property that might not appeal to everyone.  (I love, love, love the roof and unique exterior, but not wild about Tudor-style interior and the location.)

It's a spectacular home on spectacular grounds.   I'm biased, it's my listing.

I can't even begin to imagine how much the landscaping cost. It's incredible, particularly right now.
