The Korean Summit thread - The post-summit NK nuclear expansion edition.

Yebbut Trump said work had already started on Kim's side, Pompeo said they were meeting (this week? Next week? to make arrangements for oversight and his home-based people were meeting this week to talk about this, and his next-in-line (forgot her name) in effect said 'both are right yep, but no meetings for a while'.  And they never lie.....

to all of you summit supporters - so what do you think now that NK is just brazenly going ahead with expanding their nukes?

Some "agreement", huh?

To be sure, the reports out there today aren’t encouraging. But given the long history of North Korea being a rogue nation and them going back on their word, I’m not surprised. It’s not the deathknell of progress toward peace, any more than the pre-summit summit cancellation was. I expect it will be a long road, with potholes.

And, Trump was utterly idiotic in tweeting “there is no longer a nuclear threat from North Korea.” I believe the risk of nuclear war with NK is lower now that we’re directly engaging, and there’s a chance it can get to near zero. But tweet was his typical stupid sh*t bombast.

Winning.

"North Korea Calls U.S. Attitude During Talks With Pompeo ‘Regrettable’ "

"Privately, Mr. Pompeo has said that he doubts Mr. Kim will ever give up his nuclear weapons. And those doubts have been reinforced in recent days by intelligence showing that North Korea, far from dismantling its weapons facilities, has been expanding them and taking steps to conceal the efforts from the United States."

Perhaps WH saw MOLers criticism about “cozying up to dictators” and took a tougher tack with NK. But of course MOL now thinks too tough. WH now recalibrating.

This MUST be fake news.

Did not our president, the greatest deal maker in the universe, assure us all is fine?

Washington (CNN) President Donald Trump declared Wednesday that the North Korean regime no longer poses a nuclear threat following his summit with Kim Jong Un

The summit does seem to have successfully reduced talk of war -- a lot less saber rattling from that erratic leader of dubious legitimacy. Maybe Kim does deserve consideration for a noble prize for successfully defusing the threat of war posed by Trump.

Now that would be a pisser that would have Trump climbing the walls.

North Korea has continued to build missiles in the weeks since leader Kim Jong Un agreed to “work toward complete denuclearization” with U.S. President Donald Trump, the Washington Post reported.

Satellite photos and other evidence indicates that efforts were underway to assemble at least one, and possibly two, liquid-fueled intercontinental ballistic missiles, the Post reported, citing unidentified officials familiar with U.S. intelligence who spoke on the condition of anonymity. The rockets were being built at a facility in Sanumdong, on the outskirts of Pyongyang, the paper said.

The new intelligence doesn’t suggest an expansion of North Korea’s capabilities, but shows that work on advanced weapons is continuing, according to the Post.

The report is the latest indication that Kim continues to build nuclear weapons, despite Trump declaring North Korea was “no longer a Nuclear Threat” after the leaders’ June 12 summit in Singapore. While Kim has unilaterally agreed to stop testing nuclear bombs and ICBMs -- and demolished some related facilities -- he has made no commitments to stop expanding the arsenal the regime spent decades building.

Secretary of State Michael Pompeo, who’s leading nuclear negotiations with North Korea, acknowledged in U.S. Senate testimony last week that North Korean factories “continue to produce fissile material” used in making nuclear weapons. At the time, he declined to say whether Pyongyang was building new missiles.
