The inherent risk in outsourcing overseas

In my corporate career, I worked in an industry, where oldfashioned metal parts (castings + initial machining) was outsourced to China.  As a result, production scheduling went to a timeline of 6+ months, in place of traditional 3-6 weeks.

This past winter, we saw how the virus outbreak impacted shipments of virtually everything made in China.

For the past several weeks, the Mad King has touted an old anti-malaria drug as a treatment for Covid 19.  Whether he is right or not is immaterial in this context.

In the news on 4/04:   (Bloomberg) -- India banned all exports of hydroxychloroquine, a malaria drug that President Donald Trump has touted as a “game changer” in the fight against Covid-19.

Guess where most generic drugs (or at least their active ingredients) are manufactured!
