The DNC says no debates on FOX

drummerboy

Why was it even a question?

Jonathan

They can go ask Trump for money, after all they work for him exclusively. I totally agree with this. Good move.

Robert

Only do bid’ness with networks that slip their candidate the questions beforehand, I always say.

mjc

I think it's bad idea.  The more exposure the better, esp. to people who usually may only see the Fox version.

Exposure? No, let the fox junkies get exposure to the the real America, by watching the channels that carry the debates. They could use the exposure.

The Jane Mayer article makes it clear that the journalists are pressured from above to help the GOP.

The risk of questions with unfair or faulty premises would be way too great, if the Dems went on stage on Fox.

Funny you should say that.

Trump has made the debate a point of pride. He recently boasted to the Times that he’d won it despite being a novice, and despite the “crazy Megyn Kelly question.” Fox, however, may have given Trump a little help. A pair of Fox insiders and a source close to Trump believe that Ailes informed the Trump campaign about Kelly’s question. Two of those sources say that they know of the tipoff from a purported eyewitness.

Fox is the propaganda arm of Trump and the White House.  Why would the DNC set themselves up to be ambushed?

Debra

polarization continues.

mjc

OK, i was thinking broadcast on Fox, not hosted by Fox.

mrincredible

I might be interested to see which candidate best handled questions from a Fox-employed moderator.

Plus I agree there are probably some people watching Fox news who might vote for certain democrats in the general election.

nohero

Remember, this is the primary debate.  People who are actually interested in voting in the Democratic Primary can watch whatever debates take place on other networks.

In the general, sure, be on Fox so that the people who get their "information" from Fox will see the Dem nominee.

mrincredible

My point is to see how individual candidates handle questions from a moderator who has an opposing political viewpoint. It might inform my decision in the primary to see how the respond to opposing views, not just nuanced approaches to similar policy positions.

Do they just argue back with attacks on Trump's character? Are they too conciliatory? Are they more measured and thoughtful in responding to questions from someone they disagree with?

This is valuable info to me.

The Soulful Mr T

Debating Trump is dangerous. He ruined Jeb, for example For life. Any Dem that debates him has to be very VERY prepared for insults, name calling and lies. I'll be looking for candidates' likely ability to debate Trump successfully. Will Bernie be able to stand up to that harangue and harassment? I think Booker will. I'll have to think about the others.

And that's why I noted that it's the primary.  The point of the debate should be to discuss who should represent the Democrats, what issues to stress, and how to communicate the Democratic position.  It's not the time to parry attacks from the GOP side.

you're right about Jeb.  And Lyin' Ted and Little Marco too.  But I doubt any of the Democrats would allow themselves to be bullied by Trump.  Hillary Clinton did not get bullied in the debates, and she very clearly won all of them.  Her debate performances were not the reason she didn't carry the states she needed.

Treating Trump in a debate as a clown and a buffoon neutralizes his attempts at bullying.  I think at this point, anyone debating him already knows that.

lord_pabulum

Cowardly move by the DNC.

They may KNOW that but how capable are they, how well prepared are they and above all do they have the personality, the guts and gumption, to face off against Trump, perhaps the strongest fiercest, most unconventional debater I've ever seen. No one wants to "allow themselves to be bullied" but bullies are tough and aggressive and unreasonable and illogical and not easily intimidated. Which Dem candidate can give it back to him like Hilary did (for the most part)?  This worries me. The debates aren't all there is to the campaign but they're very important.

drummerboy

Wow - all of a sudden Trump has become a debate monster.

Are you kidding me?

mrincredible

nohero you and I are going to have to agree to disagree.  I think seeing how a candidate  performs when faced with the Trump / Fox bs is important for helping me make up my mind for the primary election.

he got his *** handed to him in the debates with Hillary.  I don't see why any Democrat wouldn't just go back and watch the videos to figure out how to deal with him.

Robert

Sure.  Hillary won those debates.

I'd like to see Mayor Pete go up against Trump. I think he could hold his own very well. The contrast would be mind-boggling.

The Soulful Mr T

How do you (ustedes) think Bernie would do in a debate with Trump?

Re: Not debating on Fox.

https://www.npr.org/2016/01/26/464485197/trump-says-he-most-likely-wont-do-thursday-fox-debate

The stage is set for Thursday's Fox News Channel final debate ahead of the Iowa caucuses — but front-runner Donald Trump won't be there.

After teasing earlier Tuesday evening that he "probably won't bother" with the debate, Trump's campaign confirmed he won't participate, citing unfair treatment from the network.

Not sure.  I don't know if Bernie could keep his cool, which is necessary when dealing with Trump.  And if Trump managed to get Bernie to start discoursing on what Democratic Socialism means, that would not be good.

I'll take your word for it that that's where you watched the debates.  And the overwhelming majority of human viewers here on earth also said she won.

FNC isn't much more than a cultist station now. Might as well announce you won't be getting LLBN to host a debate.
