The Latin semen=seed; you may remember that word order could be funky, so literally it's "the seed is the blood of Christians," but we usually put it the other way, and context implies that they are the "seed of the Church." Tertullian dropped this line in a gigantic treatise but it was taken up as a reminder that martyrdom was a source of joy, not sadness.

Whereas I guessed what I could and then plugged the whole thing into Google. Yes, I am shameless... in some ways. 
It's interesting how many languages have that order of words, including Anglo Saxon (precursor to English, German and High Dutch) and German as well as the Latin languages. The clues are in the forms the words take (object, subject, possessive, and so on). Translation is a lot like doing word puzzles.

Ridski, your link is a version of what the Catholic Church has always taught and simply stated: love the sinner, but hate the sin. I do not mean to suggest that transgendering is a sin, and Jenner himself shouldn't be mocked.
However, is Jenner a role model for others questioning their genders? I think not. A super male athletic and now reality show actor who had the most expensive medical treatment available and was set up by top photographers, wig stylists and fashion designers and a cover story in Vanity Fair! Did I forget the plastic surgery to reshape his face and body? Hardly a realistic goal for most who might relate to this step.
Perhaps Caitlyn's upcoming reality show about being a transgender will provide answers and guidance to individuals who are gender challenged and those who love them
Actually, I read it as far more a case of not casting stones because you are not without sin yourself. I really don't think the writer was trying to say we should not hate Jenner but rather should hate the sin s/he is committing (is sexual reassignment a sin? I don't think it can be, since it didn't exist in biblical times). So, there is not even a sin there to throw stones at.
Basically, I think that op/ed piece was saying don't judge anyone else — leave it to God. Isn't that what grace is? That we can sin but that God will still love us and save us? I thought that was the whole point. Not that we still get to hate the sin, but that it is not for us to judge.
Peggy, while I wholeheartedly agree with the rest of your comment, I don't think most religions that have sin limit it specifically to what existed in biblical times.
As I agreed, and as Pope Francis remarked, "Who am I to judge?"
My comments about Jenner's transgendering concerned the tremendous cost and publicity it incurred. Only for that 1% to achieve. I read that ABC's Diane Sawyer was unaware of the Vanity Fair article to be released within days after her television exclusive interview with Jenner.
Seems to me to be a calculated PR roll out for the Caitlyn Jenner reality show.
Rolemodel for those with sexual diaspora? I think not.
I have to agree with that, mtierney. I think just about everything the Kardashian clan does is twisted to turn a profit, even this.

Good lord. This actually goes a long way toward explaining a lot of why I find myself uncomfortable about the Bruce/Caitlyn transformation. Some of what's in that article is just batshyte crazy. And I can't help but wonder what would happen if women making the transition to become men tried to get male groups to change how they approach self-identification. But a lot of it really resonates with me, and I have to admit I agree with just about everything she said.

This is the same uncomfortableness I felt in the 60's when I was a housewife and feminists like Gloria Steinham were all over me. I wanted to tell them shh I have it the way I like it and I am sorry you don't feel the same.
I don't like nail polish and posing glamorously. Coming from a sisterhood of nine woman, some of us do and some of us don't.
I am very comfortable with Caitlyn defining herself this way. Do I want to? Not in a million years. Am I a woman as well? Yes I am.
Defining myself as a woman has nothing to do with menstruation or experiencing society's reaction to me. It is something I know at the core of my being. How I express it is up to me.
I wish Caitlyn the same freedom and have no objection to her doing so.
