The Bitching Thread

I'm mad because amie is clearly the winner of this contest.

I'm mad because she broke the rules. One bitching post per subject only! So I am bitching about her bitching I guess. :p

I cancelled my vacation days this week to work with a trainee so she can be cleared to perform certain duties. I have been getting a lot of pressure to complete your training, which is a major part of my job. At 645 this morning I got a call that she had called in sixk.

Oh man, I have a bitch list that I want to add here, but people I know read this and it might get back to the parties involved. So my ultimate bitch is that I can't share my bitch list with ANYONE. At least y'all have an outlet.

On a more philosophical note, let me add this - Do you have people in your life that love you? Do you love them back? Do nice things happen to you and those you care about on a weekly basis? Are you in good health? Do you have a roof over your head?

Now I feel like Debbie Downer, but at least I got to bitch. Thankyouverymuch. question question

Brooklyn is not the epicenter of all coolness. Please get over it.

Yes it is, and I've never lived there. Of course, that's my opinion. What's your epicenter?

Amie I can't imagine having a houseguest like that - yikes. What kind of friends are they? Had you been out of touch for a while? Seems like those people are a tad rude to their hosts.

I respectfully disagree with Tom. There are far more edgy, funky, artistic places than Brooklyn (which has become increasingly expensive and affluent)... but nobody other than the uber cool know about them yet! ;-)

Who are the 'uber cool' and do they pay the same kind of taxes as me? :-D

It sucks to finally have a yard, spend countless hours fixing it up, all to not be able to use it because the freaking tiger mosquitos will not stop bittting us! The garlic pellets don't work. The fancy therma whatever lamp repellent thing does not work. The bug repellent creams/sprays do not work! UGH!!!

And talking about house guest... @amie, my heart goes out to you. I had one of those.
This guy was moving from NM to NJ. He stayed with us for a month while I was 8 months pregnant. This dude did not clean after himself at all. He changed the channel on me so that he could watch sports, while I was in the middle of a program, played video games all day on weekends on our main TV, ate in the living room on the couch and got stains on our light color rug, did not take his shoes off even when it rained, used up all my detergent/bleach/softener and got upset when I asked him to contribute a few hundred bucks for food/electricity/laundry etc. Boy was I happy when he got his own place, although he still came over do the laundry and watch football even when we were not home! #-O

I know what you mean about the mosquitos, but I also got bitten by a wasp. There is a wasp nest in my neighbor's yard, and she won't take care of it. I have a huge red, hot, itchy bite that is driving me CRAZY!

I feel your pain, Amie. I love having guests, but some come from hell.

the guests were family -- a cousin and her husband, in their late 20s and 30s. her parents are equally self-absorbed and sloppy. when I visited them (the couple) a couple years ago (in town for a family funeral, happy to pay for a hotel but they insisted we stay there) their house was literally a slovenly hovel. The bathroom sink had never been cleaned. their pets shat all over their enclosure (on hardwood floors) and were cleaned up every couple weeks. it's at the point where if/when they have kids, you'd call social services on them.

I think about sitting them down and gently explaining social rules and basic hygiene to them but it wouldn't go over well with the extended family. I'm already the weird one that doesn't hoard magazines flat tires and 50-year-old invoices for case of toilet paper for a company that went under 30 years ago.

Here I go breaking the rules again by posting again!

To piggy-back on the DMV issues:

I went in mid-July to try to avoid the end-of-the-month rush for license renewal... and it turned out to be a day that their computers were down all across the state! Then the computer systems came up... except for the drivers' license system...

So, I had to come back to our very favorite place yet one more day...

Went back again the next week, and got chastised by both the ID-checker person and the photo-taker person that my last name, which was hyphenated with my spouses last name followed by my maiden name, and was ALREADY ON MY NJ LICENSE THAT WAS EXPIRING, was not 'legal' because it was 'hyphenated backwards'.

Each one went on about this 'problem' for at least a minute and gave me numerous warnings of the dire consequences of this for me and for my children (none of which has been a problem in the past 12 years in two states).

On the plus side, they did finally let me renew my freakin drivers' license. On the negative side, I look like I'm fed up and about to kill someone in my license mug shot.

grin) :-(( grin) :-(( grin) :-(( grin) :-(( grin) grin)

@amie I would have lasted about 3.5 seconds in that house before speeding to the nearest hotel! Yuk! :0&

I had a relative who came to visit from Europe, and old timer, in the summer, years ago. He didn't bathe. He came from a northern european city where there isn't a lot of heat and humidity. He didn't get any hints. We proceeded to entertain him only in open spaces. He was really nice too, but oh! the smell was suffocating. I can't imagine what it was like for the fellow that sat next to him on the plane back home.

I have the perfect picture to post, but I'm having trouble with my picture organizer.

Please stand by.

.....never mind......

Pantry moths. I just saw one flying and discovered something too gross to share in the bag of almonds from Costco. And the walnuts.
I just threw away a giant bag of stuff, and I am freezing anything else. Emptied my pantry cabinets of anything in cardboard or plastic. Only cans and jars in there. Thinking of buying cases of glass storage containers, mason jars, etc.

I am very itchy and poured myself a glass of red wine.

Like what the heck is crawling on me.

The Container Store is your friend. Your very expensive friend.

We also save all the nice mason jars from TJ spaghetti sauce. Take off the label with goo gone and run it through the dishwasher -- it makes the best storage. it's replaced a lot of my tupperware in the fridge/freezer.

I don't buy spaghetti sauce although I have saved jars from artichokes, etc, and I am making use of them.
Since I have gone gluten free my pasta purchases have gone way down but rice is more expensive! Fortunately it seems to have been isolated in the nuts but I am putting all that other stuff in the freezer for a few days and will try to order glass stuff. I have those quart containers from soups but I know they are not nearly as good as glass.
Yucky.

And your house guests sound like hell.

I'm also suffering from a cold! I hate summer colds and I hate them even more in such beautiful weather!

I spend way too much money on fancy candles so to make it more affordable, I have been re-suing the containers from very nice candles (i.e. Yankee Candles and such) for storage of rice and other items. Most of the containers have a sealed lid . I have a whole set (like the pic below) that looks great on display in pantry and glass cabinets. Once you remove the labels and wash them really good, nobody can tell they were used for candle once upon a time.
Sorry for the thread drift!

Oh I like this thread.

My brother moved to L.A. right after my daughter was born, and generally only sees her on holidays/special occasions when he comes to the east coast. My daughter adores him. He was in town this weekend so we all got together at my parents' house. He slept most of the time he was there, and when he wasn't sleeping, he was doing something on his phone, even if my kid was right there wanting to play with him. And he drank all of my parents' booze. He probably spent about 20 minutes total with my daughter over 2.5 days.

@afa I am really sorry to hear that. I feel bad especially for your daughter!

afa, that's so sad.

And yeah, pantry moths and mosquitoes. I haven't enjoyed being outside my house in the summer for about three or four years.
