Tara's Deli

Must acknowledge the closure of this fixture of Maplewood for at least the past decade.  It was operated by a cordial guy, who always made great sandwiches.  He probably couldn't sustain the business in the face of Covid.  Hate to see all these businesses closing.  We'll miss you, Tara's Deli.

Columbia HS probably was the economic base

Sorry to learn Tara's is closing.  When we first moved to Maplewood we went there daily to get sandwiches to feed the crew working on our house.

That stinks. One of my favorite spots for a a Taylor ham and egg sandwich.

Well, that is most unfortunate. I am sorry to see this establishment close.

If you really want a restaurant to stay in business, you can help by patronizing the business as often as you can and/or by recommending the restaurant to friends.  Most restaurants do delivery and/or curb side pick up so you don't have to risk COVID infection to do this.  This is the time to vote with your wallet if you have the money to do so.

My husband and I have done our best to support many SOMA restaurants by ordering takeout every weekend!

You must try True Salvage Cafe’s Taylor ham and egg sandwich   Bites best in the state and in our own backyard

And a LOT more that is great there. -Including amazingly tasty homemade baked desserts and great coffee.

They have a Facebook page menu.

I know my kids patronized it on their way to CHS a few years back, especially my younger one who had a 7am class a couple of years and always stopped there for coffee on the way.

One note about True Salvage Cafe - they're closed Mon and Tue - which I found out the hard way.

Went yesterday on this recommendation.

Great, substantial bun. Generous eggs and Taylor Ham. Excellent.

To pad the bill we got a scone and some excellent bread pudding, which I just warmed up for breakfast. Yum.

I believe that their Taylor Ham and egg sandwich was rated "Best in New Jersey" recently.

There is also a roast beef sandwich with fried onions and melted cheese served warm on a ciabatta roll at TSC that makes my mouth water just typing the words, and I am someone who eats red meat maybe three times a year. (Hello, pandemic stress eating?!)

Isn't their location the spot where a guy who's name I don't remember made the best sloppy joe's in town?

The rolls and bread come from a bakery in Englewood, Bergen County. Balthazar. If you are on Rt. 80, before the G.W. bridge, it is worth the detour for the bread. ... or I wonder if Salvage could order a loaf to be delivered.
