Surprise!

When I do handyman work, I always quote 'subject to whatever we find when I open it'.  I am working on a project, where I removed some built-ins in a basement room.  Once it was out, we found this under the real ceiling (sorry, photo posted sideways).

  • A large hole
  • A disconnected conduit
  • A conduit closed off with an old tomato can.

Hope this thread will be continued with interesting discoveries.

Interesting.

(Those are ducts, not conduits.)

Pretty label on the can. Can you tell how old it is?

Wow! You never know what you'll find in these old houses.

We found live wires stuck into the plaster in an internal wall. I'm sure some experienced people will say, "Ah, that ain't nothin."

I was in a rush to post this morning, and obviously had a brain freeze.

Update:  In HD the correct product, a 6" round end cap, is about seven dollars.

Not in a house but in a 77 Trans AM that I almost bought.  Put it on the lift and there was a can from Campbell's chicken noodle soup connecting the exhaust pipes.

Opened up a hollow space between walls and found old newspapers used for insulation.
