SummerOfHell - Clever Commute offers Premium services for free

I am a local technologist and bootstrapped entrepreneur. I build an on-line service called "Clever Commute."  It's a free app that combines official data from NJT and others with crowdsourced info from our fellow commuters. (see clevercommute.com or your app store for details).

I'm also an everyday NJT rider. To help us all through #SummerOfHell, the app's Premium features will be available for free.

(The free app is still/always free...but the paywall for Premium is down...until the scheduled end of the Amtrak work).

Just curious,

If all NJ trains use the same tunnel to get into NYC, why's the Morris&Essex line the only line that's going into Hoboken?

Trains from Newark Penn do not go into Hoboken but they're capable of it. As a matter of fact it's a straight shot from Newark Penn. The Morris&Essex train en route to Hoboken actually criss-crosses the Newark Penn train en route to NYC.

From the Village Green June 11th article:

NJ Transit Website Details Plans for Midtown Direct Summer Service Disruption

"...The decision to divert nearly all M&E Midtown Direct trains to Hoboken is the safest alternative [that] reduces the chance of extreme overcrowding and provides and maintains the travel pattern for 75 percent of our customers.”

Very generous of you. Thanks so much!

Hmm, I don't understand Mr. Santoro's logic. I believe there are eight lines in the NJT rail system. If the M&E line is 25% of the riders on the rail system, that would make us one of the most productive lines. Meaning, you're going to inconvenience a line that brings in a large portion of the $ generated?

I believe offering a reduced amount of trains in/out of NYC, or an option to go into Hoboken and receive a reduced fare would've been a fair deal for all.

At one time, all of our trains went to Hoboken and the majority of our commuters worked in Lower Manhattan or Hudson County.  More recently, the Kearny Connection was built enabling some of our trains to go directly to Midtown Manhattan.  This in turn made our area more attractive to persons who worked in Midtown and the outer boroughs, which in turn raised property values along the Morris & Essex Line.  With more of our commuters finding a train to Midtown more attractive than one to Hoboken, there has been more of an outcry that the Midtown Direct service is being removed, however temporarily.  Since we were the last to send our trains to Midtown and since our tracks are best equipped to move passengers to Hoboken, I can see why Morris & Essex Line trains were selected to once again send all of our trains to Hoboken.  What I do not understand is why Montclair trains were exempt from the rerouting.
