Summer job and working paper completion

Our son had his interview late last week and was told he had the job (yay!) but employer needs working papers. We rush over to CHS, pick up papers but my question is: who is around this time of year to help complete them? I've called several times b'twn Friday afternoon (directly after his interview) and this morning but only get voice mail. I will definitely go over later this morning. Is anyone there during the summer months to assist kids who snag a job after school has ended?

Thanks!

CHS is still open - last day of school is Thursday, 6/22.

The school's approval is usually a formality. Principal's secretary likely has a signature stamp to apply to the paper. Vice Prin. and guidance counselor will also satisfy the requirement. (Probably no one from the employer or the department of labor even looks at these(.

Thanks all. I was kindly asked to come back today as the person(s) who needed to sign off were not available. Hopefully, I can get this completed by Thursday.

Question: for kids who snag a job when school's officially out, what do they do regarding paperwork? Who signs off during the summer?

Just be aware that if your child does not attend a MSO district school, then you will have to get a signature from the Principal of the school the child attends and then ferry it back to MSO for a second signature. Just went through this today.

What is this requirement?  My kids are just entering their teenage years and will hopefully be entering the part-time teenage workforce in a year or so, so I've never heard of this.  Certainly didn't have this where and when I grew up.  Thanks.

The primary requirement is a sign-off from the family physician that the tyke is healthy to perform the task. Then a sign-off from the employer that the employer will follow child labor laws (there are several. They include hours of work, work around machinery and so forth). Then the principal or authorized representative signs off.

The blank paperwork is obtained from the school office. Completed forms are kept in the principal's office. One form is left with the employer.

Also, there will be a need for documents to fulfill the requirements of the I-9 form. Birth certificate, school I.D., Social Security or whatever.

You don't even have to go to the school office. When I went to CHS, the security desk had them ready.

These are the steps and please note that even if your child does not attend CHS (mine does not), the parent(s) will still need to go to CHS for sign off.

  1. Obtain working papers
  2. There is a section called "School Record" that has to be completed by the school your child attends. I had to go back to my son's school to have this done
  3. Have physician sign off on it. Make sure front desk stamps ALL document copies
  4. Have employer sign off on it; you sign as guardian
  5. LAST STEP - Have CHS (principal's office) sign off on it; they'll send their portion to Trenton, employer gets top sheet for filing / paperwork. The minor's signature is also required at this step so make sure your kid is with you when bring paperwork back to CHS

I had our son's passport which CHS kindly made a copy of and stamped to the form.

We got the working papers months ago thinking my daughter was going to look back then.  She's just started looking for p-t.  Anyone know of places other than camps still hiring.  Any lead welcomed.

Nope. My kid attended an out of state boarding school and still got her working papers through CHS.
