Trump Might Do UBI?????

Trump is considering sending people money to stimulate the economy and, I'm guessing, to get re-elected.  I'm not sure if this is a one-time payment or recurring.

In a pandemic everyone is a socialist. And nobody is a libertarian.

Bernie Sanders wants to give all households $2000 a month for the duration of the coronavirus crisis.

Well, that’s new. He’s been open to UBI, but pretty much shut it down in this interview with Ms. Ball from last August.

He didn’t think it could be done, then suddenly Mitt Romney proposes it last week, Trump gets on board, and now Sanders says it, which may kill the whole program. We’ll see. No one has said we’ll get more than one check, but if we do, Trump will be President for life, I guarantee it.

Yes, if Trump starts doing populist things like UBI and rent freezes, he will easily win.  The Republicans are going to be doing things to the left of the Democratic party.  That's how bad the Democratic Party is these days.  They united behind a senile, compulsive lying geezer just to stop the guy who wanted to give everyone the healthcare we need, and to save the planet.

Q:  How could Trump do UBI?

A:  Congress would pass it.

Q:  How does it pass Congress?

A:  The House and Senate each pass it.

Q:  Who's in charge of the House?

A:  The Democrats.

Yeah, sure.  Meanwhile Nancy Pelosi is saying no way.   Trump is now running to the left of the Democrats.

I believe Pelosi's objection was about making them universal, rather than means-tested.

All the bitter "progressive" outlets like Common Dreams have to stop acting like Fox News.  Otherwise, they look like they're happy to see Trump get another term, so they can "I told you so" and pretend they're oh-so-noble.

Trump is getting a second term.  The Democrats have ensured that.  You need to finally see that you party does not give a crap about you.  It's only about what's good for them and their donors.  They even exposed people to a disease that could kill them just to make sure the guy who can't beat Trump gets the nomination.  If they tell you to jump off a cliff are you going to do that?  I'm guessing yes.

I'm not sure about that, but means-testing will cause reforms to fail.  Biden thinks he can get Progressives on board with a means-tested half-***, not enthusiastically presented reform.  He's only making it worse.   I think Trump will offer free college before the Dems do.

Currently, there is a major schism in the Democratic Party.  Yet, the currently prevailing faction seems to believe that the best path forward is to tell the Bernie-Sanders-faction to "get in line" (on a good day, and on a bad day to shame and blame that faction).  Sounds like the opposite of a strategy which intends to heal wounds.

I don't think there's a "major schism", so much as a bunch of selfish, disappointed opportunists who care less about defeating Trump than about their chance to get into power with Bernie.

Thanks for demonstrating for all of us some of the smears that your faction uses against the other faction.

Yes, he was fine with his party running elections during a pandemic against CDC guideline, but the people who want healthcare and to save the planet are "selfish, disappointed opportunists."

Sign me up for that.

Thanks for the insult.  At some point though, pleading "lack of good information" is not going to be an excuse for you.

What are you saying here about "lack of good information?"

I disagree with both of you. Parties have factions, especially large "umbrella" Parties like we have in the US. It is nowhere near a "major schism".

And the people nohero describes are a small faction within a faction.

I was reading about Israeli politics. In that country Bernie Sanders, AOC and Nan would probably belong to three different Parties. (But they could form a "Joint List")

What are you saying here about "lack of good information?"

Example: you've been told numerous times that the party doesn't run the primaries, but you keep repeating that.  Giving you other information in order to explain further, wouldn't be useful.

So, Chuck Schumer also going to the right of Trump:

Just get the money out there already. Make it taxable. If you're in a high income bracket you'll be paying a lot of it back.

As for Peloi's concern that the money will be wasted by giving it to the richest, gimme a break. She's worth many millions, some say over 100 million. Does someone who is so rich need to have the taxpayers pay her a salary or her healthcare benefits? Wouldn't that money be wasted on her? Maybe she should volunteer her "services" to the country as a civic duty. It seems her concern does not extend to her snout in the public trough.

Unfortunately the notion of means testing is just part of the canon for a lot of Democrats. We saw that a lot during the primary campaign, with a few candidates arguing against universal free college because some billionaires might take advantage of it.

Excellent suggestion.  Easily implemented when filing tax returns for 2020 next year. Just include that amount in income.

What do I do with my check? I don't mean how do I spend it. I mean literally what do I do.

Are the banks going to stay open? Will the lines at the teller windows require everyone to stand 6 feet away from everyone else on line? At the best of times ATMs are germ incubators.

Will we get our money from the Feds by direct deposit? Or will I have to download and learn to use the App to deposit my check through my smart phone?

You are the one giving out misinformation.  The states run the primaries, but the DNC oversees that and they were the ones pushing to hold the primaries.  The governors of the states that ran the primaries are also responsible, but the DNC is absolutely included in that blame. In Ohio, the Republican governor said he wanted to delay the vote and a DEMOCRATIC judge ruled they should hold the primary.  The health department had to come in and shut it down.

Tom Perez was on cable news saying it was OK to run primaries.  Joe Biden sent out a tweet telling people that if they were not sick it was safe.  States that reschedule primaries have been threatened with losing half of their delegates.  The DNC & the governors of the states that voted are responsible for this

Your covering for them is getting pathetic.   Here is the tweet the guy you think should be our next president sent out.  Defend this:

I have no interest in trying to correct anyone's misinterpretations if they're not going to listen.

Defend this - Tom Perez saying he agrees with the states going forward. He says they have what is needed in place to make it safe. He cannot give any examples of that and it is CLEARLY against CDC guidelines.  Why was he not saying that they should not take place.  He is absolutely responsible here and should either be fired or quit.  Just unconscionable.

Same answer.  You're basing everything on interpreting.  All he said in your video was that he respects what the states were doing and he deferred to them.  Period.
