Trump-Biden Debate

First debate is on Tuesday.

Biden fires a preliminary salvo at Trump; scored a direct hit.

“Look, the people know the president’s a liar,” Biden continued. “I mean they know that. It’s not like it’s gonna come as a surprise to them. And so I’m prepared to go out and make my case as to why I think he’s failed, and why I think the answers I have to proceed will help the American people and the American economy and make us safe internationally.”

Biden predicted Trump’s strategy will be “just straight attack, they’re going to be mostly personal, it’s the only thing he knows how to do,” then told Ruhle that Trump “doesn’t know how to debate the facts because he’s not that smart. He doesn’t know that many facts. He doesn’t know much about foreign policy, he doesn’t know much about domestic policy, he doesn’t know much about the detail.”

You are confirming his point, which is that all you guys can do is personal attacks and spread fear, because there is nothing positive you can run on. It's all about lies and hate, and deep down it is all about racism. That's why he is so popular in your cohort. It's because he says things out loud that you guys think, but are afraid to say for yourself.

cartoon

noun, often attributive

car·toon | \ kär-ˈtün \

Definition of cartoon

4: a ludicrously simplistic, unrealistic, or one-dimensional portrayal or version

“Political cartoons are the ***-end of the art form.” — Ivan Brunetti, “Cartooning: Philosophy and Practice”

(Apologies, kind of, for the thread drift already.)

mtierney complains that someone called her "stupid" and then posts something very stupid.

Anyone who is not stupid knows that that cartoon does not represent the Democratic Party or Joe Biden and his campaign.

This first debate is huge — may be more important than the following two plus the VP debate combined, IMO. If Biden does decently and it’s at least a draw, that’ll be a real big step toward sealing the deal.

Some people just advertise what they are.

Whenever I see a MAGA hat, flag or sign I see it as "Hey, I'm Stupid".

Biden looks like Reagan against Carter in the debates. People had doubts about his age and ability. After every one of trump lies, that will be on full display, Biden just  needs to say ..... “there you go again”.....

As for the middle school troll with her stupid cartoons, is it that difficult to ignore her? Really?

Biden shoukd walk out with a fire extinguisher and set it down on the stage. And when Wallace asks him about it, he can say it's preparation for when Trump's pants burst into flames.

I am not sure I agree. How many voters are still really undecided and of those few how many will watch the Debate. Trump has been President for over 3 1/2 years and is on TV and in the news everyday. Who are the people who have not made up their minds about him.

Perhaps there are voters who do not like Trump but do not know if Biden is any better. Maybe they are trying to make up their minds whether to vote for Biden or not vote at all. I have difficulty understanding such people.

The undecideds group is pretty small in absolute terms but it seems to be plenty big enough in the key states to potentially determine the outcome of the election.

And I would think a fair amount of those UDs will either watch the debate, or at least hear about it the next day if something significant happens.

Joe’s on it - "I'm not sure anybody hasn't already made up their mind they're for Trump. But who knows. He's sort of like Goebbels. You say the lie long enough, keep repeating it, repeating it, repeating it, it becomes common knowledge.”

This is a pretty bad poll for Trump. Of course this is only a single poll, and a national one, but still. 56% of voters think the next president should nominate a justice for the supreme court, 60% of voters think abortion should stay legal, 57% of voters supports Obamacare, 56% of voters think the country is heading in the wrong direction (and only 35% of voters think the country is heading in the right direction).

That’s pretty accurate. Trump and his cult will be obliterated come November.

Not so fast. They are going to be crushed in the popular vote, that is already pretty clear. However, they can still win the WH and the Senate. In the american system, unless democrats win in a landslide, the republicans are still in control.

All three branches will be flipped. I feel people are more motivated than 2008, with Obama. Trump has dug his own grave with his teeth.

Do you believe the voters have forgotten what the Democrats encouraged and gave a pass to?

Are you reposting this on every thread - incredibly dumb cartoon.

Love how they're trying to pin de-fund the police on Biden.   Please show us the clip where Biden endorses this.

It's the second time in as many days that Ms. Mtierney posted that cartoon (not relevant to this thread) - the first time was in response to my post starting this thread.

Trump supporters have nobody but themselves to blame, when they post lies like this over and over, just to insult other voters.

It's Trump's whole strategy, including for the debate this week.

NPR has been playing a rabble-rousing, no-content clip from T as a news lead-in a couple of times an hour today.  Followed by a (much lower-key, of course) statement from Biden, but still.  I **really** wish they wouldn't do this.  It's not even newsworthy, just personal slam, and it makes its way into people's minds.

I imagine the debate will yield a lot more such clips.  ****

Will what they hear the next day be accurate? Does it not depend on the source?

No rules, just right.

https://www.mentalfloss.com/article/52790/where-did-phrase-aye-yai-yai-come

“There are several ways the phrase is commonly spelled in the English language, such as “aye yi yi,” “ai yai yai” and “ay yai yai,” but there is no formal acknowledgement about which is correct given its slang nature.”

I thought the correct spelling was “Oy ve”
