Phil Murphy commercial

I’ve seen a commercial several times now where Phil Murphy claims he is cutting taxes and making New Jersey more affordable.

Serious question, what taxes are being cut?

He signed a $2B property tax relief program, but that's not strictly a tax cut, though it has the same effect.

Does the ad actually say "cut"?

I guess I'll have to pay attention next time.

New ANCHOR Property Tax Relief Program

July 18, 2022

A new property tax relief program is replacing New Jersey's previous Homestead Benefit program. The Affordable New Jersey Communities for Homeowners and Renters (ANCHOR) program will benefit a large number of homeowners and includes tenants.

Homeowners

  • $1,500 for taxpayers with 2019 gross incomes up to $150,000
  • $1,000 for those with 2019 gross income above $150,000 but no higher than $250,000.

Tenants

  • $450 for those with 2019 gross income up to $150,000

Applications will be available this fall, and the deadline for submission is Dec. 30, 2022. The benefit will be paid no later than May 2023.

Whatever the Murphy commercials say, the main point is that he's running commercials as a term-limited governor.

He has this fantasy that he could run for President, like Chris Christie in a better-tailored suit.

Here is an article that contains another commercial, which I haven't seen until now.

The article alludes to the possibility of Murphy running for the Democratic nomination if Biden does not run.
