Justice Ginsburg - RIP

Trump gets another justice.

So sad. She held on but to no avail. RIP.

When Scalia died McConnell denied Obama's nominee because a claimed a president in his last year in office should not decide a new justice.

We will now see these hypocrites approve a new justice at warp speed.

If Biden is elected the solution is to expand the SC to 11.

In 2016, Senate Republicans refused to consider President Barack Obama’s nomination of Judge Merrick B. Garland, saying that holding hearings in the last year of a president’s term would deprive voters of a role in the process.

Mr. McConnell and his allies say the two situations are different. Where one party controls the Senate and the other the presidency, as in 2016, they say, vacancies should not be filled in a presidential election year. Where the same party controls both the Senate and presidency, they argue, confirmations may proceed.

Of course, now, because one party control the senate and the presidency its OK to push something through. They didn't say that in 2016. They must really think were stupid.

There is NO doubt that Trump and McConnell will get another SCOTUS justice confirmed before January 20. Maybe even before November 3.

They don't really care what we think.

2016 - Let the people decide (Republican senate to Obama)

2020 - You can decide (Republican senate to Trump)

Yertle the Majority Leader has spoken publicly about his plans to confirm a Trump Justice even if the position opens on election night.

What is worrying is this can have a profound effect on the election.

Mail in voting and delayed voting issues may be decided by SC as may after election disputes.

Biden should stack the deck and move to 13 supreme court justices as soon as he takes office and both houses of Congress give him the power.  Time to play some hardball.

Do you think he should announce that ahead of the election or wait until after?  I am trying to figure out how this plays politically.  Aren't all the people who would vote for Trump because of the SCOTUS already turning out for him?

You guys are all wound up.  Maybe the R's will do the right thing.

grin grin

My thoughts...1) do whatever necessary to block any nomination before election.  2) Elect Biden & take back Senate 3) Hope we can block lame duck confirm. 4) Nominate Michele Obama.

What can possibly be done?  They have the votes. I mean, maybe, best case scenario, you could spit off Romney and Collins but that would still leave you short.

another problem - even if McConnell doesn't push through a new justice, any election issue, of which there most assuredly will be, goes to a 5-3 court. (or does that matter?)

sh!t

I'm not gonna sleep tonight

Murkowski already said she won't agree before election. I think Romney's a lock no, Collins, who knows.

Moscow Mitch promises a quick vote. We need to burn Trump and the republicans in this election, please do whatever you can in terms of of volunteering, or donate at actblue. This is no joke. And if we win we should increase SCOTUS to 101 justices

Collins will be concerned that it might not be appropriate to confirm another justice before the election.  She might even be VERY concerned.  She may REALLY furrow her brow this time.

If you’re setting your watch, Senate terms start on Jan. 3.

 She truly is just awful.

We owe it to her to raise hell on these folks

can you even imagine a conservative justice getting this kind of reaction?

no way Scalia is in heaven.

Maybe getting some remedial catechesis in Purgatory, about things he got wrong like capital punishment.

I'm not a religious scholar but do you get a VIP pass if you died on a hunting trip? Religion always leaves me bewildered.

13, 2016 --Scalia is found dead in his room at a Texas ranch where he had gone on a hunting trip.

The poster will learn this on it's own.  Until then it will not believe it.

My Hebrew School Teacher-Rabbi told us that there is no heaven and hell, heaven and hell are on earth.

StanV, plus isn’t hunting for pleasure one of those forbidden activities? Just asking for the intellectual exercise, not political point scoring. I know we’re not meant to eat the meat of a hunted animal.
