Just love Merrick Garland.

I'm watching the hearing and listening to the thoughtful kind answers of Judge Garland, and struck by the contrast to the former AG.

I've been a Garland crusader since his rude treatment by McConnell and company. I'd prefer to see him seated as one of the 9 but happy to cheer for him now. Glad that Sen. Cory Booker gave him the opportunity to share his personal motivation, which should have moved anyone who listened and  embarassed the Senators who treated him with such discourtesy when he was President Obama's pick for the Supreme Court.

Tough to choose who is more obnoxious, Tom Cotton or Mike Lee.  And what is the passive aggressive technique of Kennedy? Is he doing the "I'm just a dumb country lawyer" thing with his philosophical exploration of the concept of systemic racism?

Josh Hawley, I suspect he practices in front of a mirror.

Kennedy is the reincarnation of Andy Devine...why yes, I am old.

Got to admire the self-discipline of Garland as he fields questions about impartiality from the monstrously-hypocritical GOPers who seem to have forgotten the last AG.

I keep waiting for Kennedy to say "Plunk your magic twanger, Froggy!"

The whole GQP questioning of Merrick Garland can be summed up as: "Why do you say 'systemic racism' as if it's a bad thing?"

For comparison:

Devine was born in Flagstaff, Arizona, on October 7, 1905. He grew up in Kingman, Arizona, where his family moved when he was one year old. His father was Thomas Devine, Jr., born in 1869 in Kalamazoo County, Michigan. Andy's grandfather, Thomas Devine, Sr., was born in 1842 in County Tipperary, Ireland, and immigrated to the United States in 1852. Andy's mother was Amy Ward, a granddaughter of Commander James H. Ward, the first officer of the United States Navy killed during the Civil War. Devine was a Republican.[2]

He attended St. Mary's College in Leavenworth, Kansas, St. Benedict's College in Atchison, Kansas, and Northern Arizona State Teacher's College (now Northern Arizona University), and was a football player at Santa Clara University.[3][4] He also played semiprofessional football[4] under the pseudonym Jeremiah Schwartz. His football experience led to his first sizable film role in The Spirit of Notre Dame in 1931.[4]

Devine supported Barry Goldwater in the 1964 United States presidential election.[10]

Kennedy was born in Centreville, Mississippi and raised in Zachary, Louisiana. After graduating from Zachary High School as co-valedictorian in 1969, Kennedy entered Vanderbilt University, where his interdepartmental major was in political science, philosophy and economics. He graduated magna cum laude.

At Vanderbilt, he was elected president of his senior class and named to Phi Beta Kappa. After Vanderbilt, Kennedy received a Juris Doctor in 1977 from the University of Virginia School of Law in Charlottesville, Virginia. At the University of Virginia School of Law, he was an executive editor of the Virginia Law Review and was elected to the Order of the Coif.[2] In 1979, he earned a Bachelor of Civil Law degree with first class honours from Oxford University (Magdalen College) in England, where he studied under Sir Rupert Cross and John H.C. Morris.[3][4]

In the 2004 election, Kennedy endorsed Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry over George W. Bush.[11]

And Kennedy used to sound reasonable on occasion when he appeared on the odd MSNBC show but then he questioned Garland with that exercise in "define systemic racism."

Also, I question his rationale on the impeachment issue.

Well, I was stuck on the fact that William Barr looked like Ralph Kramden .

Ah, yes. I can see that.

I don't know.  I suspect Kennedy is actually a marionette.
