Dem Debate - Jan 14

Might was well get this started.

How much time will they waste on the Bernie/Liz dustups?

Will Bernie come hard after Biden?

How many "How will you pay for that?" questions will there be?

And what about.....

Naomi?

What are the odds that a question is asked about one of the more important issues regarding our Democracy - which is the packing of the courts.

Zero.

Republican voter suppression?

Zero

Harry and Meghan?

50-50

I've never answered any question in my life in 75 seconds.

so far it's about exciting as the last 2 debates.

Can Barbara Lee run?  grin

Hmm, how is Warren's answer that we should pull out all troops. Will voters be OK with that concept? Will it sound bold or naive?

Is Pete agreeing with her?

How is Steyer still on the stage at this no-longer-early point? Has anyone here ever met a Steyer supporter? I haven’t.

I think Mayor Pete has an advantage here with the other relatively young candidates Yang, Booker, Harris, etc. not there. He comes across as extra youthful and energetic up there with the old farts.

yes, i am baffled that Steyer met the donor minimum.

"candidates must receive donations from 225,000 individuals"

I don't see that. I think he appears smart but inexperienced. He sounds knowledgeable on any military issue but I don't feel confident that he could unravel the many tangles that we will be facing.

I like the way Bernie is distinguishing himself from Biden. With a bit of humor and with civility. Maybe this is going to be Bernie's best debate.

Biden frequently kind of ‘resets’ when he’s talking, like he’s just about to lose his train of thought, but he somehow gets through it without completely losing it. It’s gotta be a manifestation of diminished mental acuity, as I don’t remember him like this in 2012 or 2008.

Not a good sign for what he’ll be like next year or 4 years from now.

"who in their right mind thinks a woman can't win the White House"

Bernie going with the "don't blame Conan" answer when asked if he said that a woman couldn't win the White House.

Joe is holding his own.   I think you're over exaggerating his "reset" issue.  What do you attribute it to when others have to "reset" a little?  I think I've seen many of them do it.  I'll try to point out when someone does it next.

He is holding his own. I just can’t help but think that 2012 Biden would be winning.

If Biden wins the nomination, he has to pick Warren as VP.

In regards to health care - everyone's idea has a flaw.  It's an odd debate.  But in the end - you don't have any absolute idea how things will get paid - or a clear road to passage.

Why does Sanders have to move a foot closer to hear the questions?  I can see Larry David exaggerating that at the next SNL skit.

Trump is going to beat all of them.  It's over.

For delivery, I give it to Warren. She seems authentic, energized, and prepared. She sells me every time.

I just started watching. Biden just answered the CINC question.

And the first thing he said was to apologize, sort of, for voting for the Iraq war.

And the rest of his answer was kinda sh!t.

OK

yeah - I sorta feel this.  No one on the stage is going to truly excite the base.  But at the same time, I'm hoping that the anti-Trump crowd will be excited enough on their own and will not be as complacent as they were in 2016.

I don't know guys. The sheer prospect of voting for a decent human being. after watching the embarrassment that is Trump, is pretty damn exciting. There's no one on the stage that I'd want to have a beer with, but I'd be happy to throw them the keys to the White House.

He'll probably pick Trent Lott.  You know, to encourage bipartisanship.

I'd have a beer with any of them except Biden. A game of darts with Mayor Pete would be fun.

Twist:  All of them except for Biden and Buttigieg will possibly have to be in DC for the final week before Iowa caucuses.

Where has nan been?

Right.  Wolf made it a debate question (it wasn't even the stupidest question he asked):
