Biden Nominates Oldest Administrator in NASA History

As he approaches 80, Bill Nelson will be the oldest administrator in NASA history.  Widely seen as a creature of big aerospace, Nelson was one of the main proponents of the Space Launch System which is almost a decade behind schedule and billions of dollars over budget.  Folks in the space community had been hoping that Biden would nominate the first woman to lead the agency but Biden's close personal relationship with his septuagenarian crony apparently outweighed any hopes for gender equity.

To be fair, the guy kind of looks like one of those freeze dried pancakes from the Apollo years.

The SLS program is one of the shadier government projects currently under way.  There has been a lot of speculation that contractors and politicians associated with the program have actively worked to suppress refuellable rocket technology being developed by private companies because it would out perform the SLS.

He does but he left them at home the day that picture was taken.

Ageism!

I am more opposed to Nelson because he seems to be trapped in the past than because he experienced so much of our early history up close and personal .

That said, there are plenty of other reasons why this dinosaur should be put out to pasture.  Nelson's voracious appetite for Saudi political comtributions and his corresponding support for the Kingdom's barbarism in Yemen ought to give even the biggest fan of weathered beef jerky pause.

On the upside, he appears to have found his teeth.
